Also there are some very good free anti virus and spyware programs on filehippo.com. Ccleaner is another program worth checking out.
Another "trick" is to disable the Virtual Memory. (right click Computer icon, click Properties, in left hand pane click on Advanced System Settings....Advanced, then Performance - Settings - Advanced - Change, un check the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives) Restart and go back and re check and set to system max. If you are on a Vista machine this will help a lot. Not so much on XP, but will gain some.
