Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

Have very large rack Techics system around 15 years old. Worked great until a few months ago. When I turn the amplifier on, then the other components, everything works fine. After a short while, all the lights on the amp go off, but system continues on as it was. Cannot turn anything off or adjust settings or volume until the amp lights back up. Tries collong it, but no luck. Now amp will not power up at all, therefore system is dead. Checked cords, connections, power supply - out of ideas. Don't want to toss the system for one component, but at this age, what can I do? Is there a fix or is there a replacement amplifier compatible with the system I can buy, and where. Am rather attached to system- had dual cassette as well as CD players. Sound has been incredible and really don't want the hassle of finding another system if this one is fixable. All suggestions appreciated. Please HELP!!!!

Belonged to my boyfriend, died in Dec. - reason for attachment to system. Only info I have is the # on amplifier SU - G95 and data on owners manual - SD-S935/SD-SS925. Been a great system until recently - guess it misses him as much as I do. Please help me fix it or at least replace the amplifier if possible.

    Thanks,
    Shirley

Cynthiana, KY - about 40 min from Lexington. Work schedule makes sending it off to a reputable repair shop who specializes in older systems more realistic. Possible? Also would appreciate advice on newer systems - any still offer cassette, cd, and radio in one system? Also what type of TV - LED, LCD,plasma is best and most durable for just plain watching? No game stations, dvds and regular tv stations? Been surfing for info and have ended up confused and frustrated. Thanks.

This system has an "amp-pac" IC for the final stage of the amplifier that has failed. The unit is now in protection mode to prevent further damage. This is a relatively simple repair for any shop that does audio repair. Expect a parts cost in the $75-$95 range. If you can post where you are located, perhaps I can suggest a repair shop.

Unfortunately I'm in Massachusetts. The part that is likely to be defective will cost around $85 and is still available from Panasonic (Technics is their consumer brand). Check with a local repair shop about the repair. The labor for this should be minimal or a "minor" repair.

Good afternoon.
If you would, please post the Model # of your system. It'll help me answer this for you.
Thanks.

Boiler does not fire up sometimes and takes around 5 minutes to fire up when it does.

If you've had it for about 18 years it may be time for a replacement or, at the very least, a boiler repair. I had mine replaced three months ago and it was 15 years old. I think that it is important to make sure that you replace important things like this about every 15 years just to ensure that everything is working properly and is up to date. How long have you had issues with it? Because if it has worked really well up until recently then all you probably need is just the repair though. Bailey Plumbing and Heating and Air Conditioning

Sounds like the light engine is going bad...that's why they stopped making these rear projection sets using LCD's. Costs almost as much as a new set! But get a second opinion before trashing it.

System shuts off and turns to red light standby

Hello. You may want to double check your connections and cables. The only time I've ever heard a clicking before a system shut it's self down was when a kid had stuck the battery cover from a TV remote into the disc drive.
Also, if the PS3 keeps acting like that, Sony will repair/replace the unit for free including shipping since it's under a year old. Thanks and good luck!

I had this problem a few years back.

It's not a physical problem, it sounds like a bad relay, but a few other things were fixed when I sent it in for repair

It's not a simple fix, the amplifier in the subwoofer will need to be fixed by a knowledgable technician who has access to a schematic
