Question about RTO TIF Instruments Low Side 134a Auto Glycerine Refrigerant Gauge
Refrigerant in an automotive system should always go on the low side of the a/c system to prevent damage or injury. If attempting to refill on the high side, the extremely high pressures generated by the a/c compressor can actually exceed what is in the refrigerant can, causing the can to overpressurize and even explode. Plug the adapter hose (sometimes included with the can, sometimes not) into the low side port, identifiable by its blue cap. If no cap is available, it is always the smaller of the two ports. The high and low side ports are always different sizes, so if the one you're trying doesn't work, you probably have the wrong one. As far as where the port is located in your engine compartment, that is different with every car. Usually it is relatively easy to see and access. The simplest way to find it is by tracing the two metal/rubber hoses coming from the front of the engine compartment (from the "condenser", a part which looks very similar to a radiator, but is usually located directly in front of the radiator) back to the firewall (or rear of the engine compartment). One of these two lines will end up leading to your a/c compressor, a part which looks similar to your alternator or power steering pump (in that is has a pulley in the front and is belt driven). This is your high pressure line - ignore it. Trace the other hose back to the rear of the engine compartment, and somewhere along it -before it disappears in the interior of your car - you'll find the low side port located on that hose
