Connect your player to the pc that has the Philips device manager running, then reset the player by holding the off-switch and the volume-+ (plus) switch. As soon as the player shuts off, press and hold the volume- - (minus) switch. The Philips device manager will recognize the player now, and recommend a repair, do so.

Absolutely brilliant solution, from a completely 'frozen on' situation it was working again within less than 2 minutes of starting this fix.
Thank you so much for your help.

After downloading a playlist my MP3 has been "stuck" with the screen saying "Update DB" - it's been 30 minutes. I cannot get it to turn off or do anything.

I had this same problem. I hit the reset button with a paperclick, it reset, but became frozen logging on. Coby said I may have loaded a bad MP3 file on it. Hence, I ran three different programs to fix and repair my files, got a new MP837 and the same thing happened. Pieces of &^%$#. Don't bother calling Coby, they don't care and can't help!!!

4 GB Player, yet can load only 3.71 GB

There is actually nothing wrong. Manufacturers declare it to be 4 GB but in reality it is a little less. THis is because of the computation of bytes in a megabyte and in a Gigabyte. So dont worry if you are only able to save that as it is normal.

Frozen screen

The player can be reset if frozen by pressing and holding POWER ON & VOL+.

If the problem persists the only way to fix it is with Philips Device Manager. There is no Linux version available though.

Perhaps you can hijack a friends Windows PC to run it.
