Can ping the copier, is the driver properly loaded, current drivers from sharp web site, network cable good or USB cable? is it a network copier can others print?

Sharp does offer a linux driver, look for a cups driver.. Sharp offers drivers for mac, linux, hp output servers, as/400, windows etc... of course this varies on model number...

There is a vista driver available for that model as long as you are talking about the M161 not 161. Do you have the optional print kit installed or only parallel interface. If you only have the parallel connection it requires the GDI driver which can be downloaded from Sharpusa.com under support then type your model and select OS and driver type GDI
