Remove you sat nav from the car (I am presuming it is not factory fitted) attach to your computer via a USB cable there will probably be a USB mini or micro socket on the sat nav, you should have been supplied with the correct USB cable when you bought the unit. Once you have connected your unit to the computer go to the sat nav manufacturer website and select products. Go to your product and look for downloads or updates. Also check that the sat nav screen isn't asking you questions to communicate to your computer. Sometimes you have to agree that the unit an talk to the computer or nothing will happen. When you have found the relevant update save it to your sat nav unit being carefully not to unplug the USB lead untill you are completely finished. When you restart your sat nav it should be up to date.
Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps.
Sat Nav not compatable, You will have to buy a NEW ONE.

Mercedes commans sat nav version 4.1 for E220, is saying off road, and when at home is showing on map that I am somewhere in the National Park Peak District. I have been told to remove fuse for sat nav should be no 28 but in boot of car near sat nav cassette fuses in box only go upto 20. Am I looking in the right place?
You should be able to just press the screen and it'll come back to life. Failing that, press the on/off switch - if it switches on, go to Navigate, if it switches off, switch it back on again and go to Navigate.
