Canon SD100 Lens Error (camera)

My 3 month old Canon SD1100 camera will not work as it says "Lens Error" It happened during our vacation so I assume sand may have gotten into it. Any suggestions?

Your assumption is probably correct. Even dust can cause the lens to get stuck (pg 193). You might try using a can of compressed air while pressing the power button to see if you can free the lens or take it to a camera shop like Ritz.

First try calling 1-800-OK-CANON to see if warranty repair applies. If not...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

HOW DO i reset my camera when I get a "lens error" message?

If the camera is under guarantee take it back,
the lens error is that the lens isnt locking properly, to do this (and this is going to sound nuts) you must take the battery out wait 2-3 minutes then whack the camera (side) on a hard surface like a solid wood desk( not too hard), this will help unblock the lens to close/open correctly),
this is a fault with this particular model and its going to continue happening to you,

My Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS says it has a lense error. It tells me to restart it so I do and it keeps telling me the same thing.

Your problem is your lens. Your lens could be blocked from getting out the right way when it starts up. Thats usually the case. And so if it comes out the way it should (or seems that way) The gearing in the lens is being faulty. I have the same series camera (Canon PowerShot SD780 IS) and thats what happened to me. Try calling a camera fixing company to see how much it would be to fix it because it seems like a bigger issue. Or if its still under warranty, file a claim and send it back.

Lens error, restart camera message

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens error restart camera

same thing just happened to me today. the little girl that I babysit dropped it about 1 foot to the rug on the ground, not a hard drop at all. so i tried taking out the batteries and hit it on the table (read on other sites) then i gently turned the end of the lens (my lens was stuck out) counter clock wise and it clicked and then worked.
