Question about Samsung LN-S4051D 40 in. LCD Television

Open Question

LA40R71 problem... I have a Samsung 40" LCD TV, model # LA40R71. I've had it for one year. Recently I've noticed that on the left side of the screen, about one-third, the color is duller in some scenes. I have ruled out the sattelite receiver, and have changed the input cables, so it's none of these causing the problem.I simply have the receiver hooked up through video cables; one yellow, and the red and white audio. What's odd is that the problem is very bad when connected to the AV1 source ports, but much better when I connect to the AV2 source ports. Even in the AV2 ports, it's still slightly noticable. It's most noticable in dark scenes, especially connected to AV1.Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this? I'm currently living in a country where the customer support is almost nonexisitant, so I'm hoping to at least determine a probable cause. Thanks, Bryon

I had this problem as well. I tried adjusting the voltage, but it only caused different color problems.

If you using HDMI, try checking your HDMI connection. I found that by I could simply "jiggle" (yes, that the technical term..he he) the HDMI cable around - while the cable was fully/completely attached to the TV - until I found a position where the color issues went away.

Now, the only problem is that I have to go and "adjust" the HDMI cable from time to time as the cable seems to shift over time. I'm thinking there is a problem with the HDMI input board on my tv (42" plasma - HP-S4253). But, since I'm over 3 months out of warranty, I'm not about to shell out big bucks for a new board. I can live with adjusting the cable from time to time.

ok your tv does not come with the very best sound, you have to get a receiver 7.1 or you can use the optical wire , that's if the system you are using has that option.

But that kind of problem is related LCD panel.
If you can replace LCD inverter first.

I have recently bought a Samsung SM2033HD TV and want to wall mount it. I can remove the base but how do I remove the collar that joins the base to the TV.

Your tv is not fully VESA compliant. You cannot remove the collar. There are mounts available that grip the screen instead of screwing into the back. This type will look better.

My 32 inch samsung lcd tv has got faint black lines running down the screen ,its nearly 4 years old but i expected it to last longer than that, and ive had sky hd box recently would that have anything todo...

Are these lines on both side of the screen or what location are they in? They can be caused by watching 4:3 television with the black bars on both sides. Watching 16:9 full screen HD wont cause issues with that. If only on the sides there is not much you can do except put a pure white screen on the TV and leave that on for at least 6 hours. This will age the panel a little but in theroy wil even the pixel burn you have to make the lines less noticable. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you

It sounds like this is a problem with the inverter boards on the LCD panel. Unfortunately the inverter boards are usually only available with the whole LCD panel and the only way to fix it is by replacing the whole LCD panel. This is the most expensive part of the TV (about $1000) and you will need to take the whole TV apart in order to replace the panel. A new TV of similar make and model will usually be about the same price as the repair.

It sounds like you have a Power Supply Board problem. The PSB is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM852 & CM853; 2200ufd 25volts.

Image Retention

burn in is not supposed to occur on an lcd tv, however I have an lcd from Proview that leaves images on the polymer layer the white horizontal address bar is the most prominent. if I leave the monitor off for about 3 days the images disappear, this may or may not help you, if Samsung has created a ticket on this issue you may well receive a prepaid shipping label to return the tv for repair.
