Question about Cell Phones

2 Answers

This is a new phone plugged into the magicjack. The phone works in all ways except it does not ring with incoming calls. The phone that was previously hooked to the magicjack did not have this problem.

I have tried all of the ringtones and performed a reset to factory defaults on the phone with no success.

And as you probably have figured out this isn't a cell phone. I could not find a forum for a regular phone.

This is most likely an issue with the magic jack device not being compatible with your phone. You will need to find another phone you can use to test the system with. If the new / different phone works just fine on the magic jack then you know for sure your other phone is incompatible. If the new / different phone doesn't ring on the magick jack then it's the actual magic jack device that has either a configuration error or is defective.

In this case you will need to contact magic jack support, I think they are available only via chat, you can reach them here:

I am sure your phone is fine, it's definitely an issue with either compatibility with the magic jack, or a bad or misconfigured magic jack device.

Check to make sure your phone ringer is not turned off. Try a different ring tone.

I can not get port to let me get in coming calls

Most likely your system has a firewall somewhere .
Could be the router. You need to log into the router and check TCP ports 5060 and 5061 are allowed in the firewall settings . ring your isp and ask them to help you get Voip incoming ports to work on your router for incoming Voip and tell them the device you are trying to use

My phone doesn't ring. The call goes directly to my computer and I don't know someone is calling.

This could be failure of the power adapter module.
Is your Magicjack plugged into the wall power thru a power adapter? Try bypassing the power adapter and plugging the magicjack directly into a USB port on your computer. If the magicjack work correctly now, then you have a bad power module.
I had a similar problem. My Magicjack was plugged into a wall socket. First the dial tone became inconsistent, then I could no longer make calls out, then it died completely.
I plugged the MJ into a USB socket on my computer, and it then worked normally.

Magicjack is aware of the problem and offers a replacement power adapter module. To contact them, go to www.magicjack.com and go to "support". They will ship you a new power module for about $5.50. Some people have reported that the replacement modules from Magicjack are no better than the originals and have had repeat failures.
Consider getting a power module from another source. There are lots of AC to USB power converter modules available on Ebay for only a few dollars. Search Ebay for "magicjack power adapter".

No ring on incoming calls

I found this in statement in a review of Magicjack on Amazon, hope it helps.

The one problem I did encounter was at the beginning when I found that one of my phones wouldn't ring when someone called me. By googling the problem, I found out that this problem is due to the ringer equivalency number (REN) of the phone you are using (google "phone REN" to find out what it is). Most phones have their REN listed at the bottom of the base unit. From my experience, I believe Magicjack will only work for phones that have REN of up to 1.0B (add up all phones in your system to get your total REN. Mine had a corded base with 0.6B REN with 2 more cordless handsets. I figured that made my phone system total to 1.8B REN). Magicjack did ring on a phone that had 0.98B REN. To fix the problem, I bought a multi-handset GE DECT 6.0 (model 28223 Series) which basically has REN 0.0B. Magicjack had no problems ringing with this phone. My phone system was over 3 years old anyway so I didn't mind replacing it.

Incoming Call not Ringing

Either call line 3 first, or make your phone ring :-)

What might be the easiest is to swap modular plugs in the back room between 2 and 5. That way, you get your old extension back and everything will work as it did.

If you can't do that, then you're going to have to do some system programming to turn on the ringing on your phone. If you have a TA series system, you should be able to do it from either the PC or a phone connected to jack $1. If you have another model, you should have a system manual on how do make programming changes.
