The best way to check the mower is to follow the fuel system first, and then the air system.

I know you've checked some of this, but its easier to go step by step from the beginning anyway:

Fuel System Check:
Fuel Level, age of fuel, quality of fuel. Drain the lines to check for plugs in the lines. If your mower is equipped with a fuel filter, check the filter for clogs (Usually inline on the fuel line)

Check the priming pump and the fuel pump/suction hose. A lot of push mowers run on suction, and a small leak can be to blame, look for wet areas along the hose to trace for leaks.

Air System: Check the air filter for clogs and clean it out while you've got it out (always helps extend the life of the mower), check the air lines for clogs and debris. Check the carburetor, make sure the throttle cable is working and all parts are functioning.

If I had to make an educated guess as to the source of the problem, I would lean towards the air/fuel mixture. It sounds like the mix is too rich. A telltale sign of this would be a significant amount of smoke on start up. Try playing with the choke (if equipped) or carburetor to lean out the mixture a bit (Adding more air and less fuel) and give that a go. If it starts, I would doubt it would be the coil or part of the electrical system.

Lawn mower refusing to start. plenty of petrol but i suspect it is not firing. ~Ive changed the plug still no sign of life

What manufacturer makes the motor? You could have a dirty kill switch that is preventing the motor from getting spark.

Will not start petrol ok Carb jet settings ?? Condenser ??

Mowers do not have condensers anymore unless it is a very old model. Try replacing the spark plug, and is there sufficient compression? Even if the carb settings are out, the engine should at least fire if the ignition is ok.

Clean old petrol can thoroughly

Not to worry, just drain out any old gas, put in a little new gas, shake it a little, pour that out fill it up and use it. If its bad varnished w/ old gas use stuff called Seafoam pour it in, shake it up let it sit over night and pour that out use like normal.

Ng460 sovereign mower fires up but just stops petrol ok plug ok what next

If it's the little Briggs & Stratton Sprint engine the problem is likely to be the diaphragm that sits between the fuel tank and the carburettor body. They shrink on an incredibly regular basis (usually just outside warranty!) and cause the machine to either not run, or run very rich (as if the choke is full on). If you're competent you can remove the tank/carb assembly, split the two and replace the diaphragm. If not, your local friendly machnery dealer will fit a new one for probably (in the uk) under £30..

Can not start mower - petrol n oil ok - how do I get into s plugs

Hello,

Fuel in the oil indicates an excessively rich condition. To correct, you will need to drain the petrol contaminated oil and replace with new. Then, take out the old spark plug and leave the spark plug hole open. Turn the engine over several timesby hand to help vent any raw gas in the cylinder. Then, install a new spark plug.
You should be able to now start your engine and make any other adjustments with it running.

Cheers!
