Power light comes on and forward and reverse buttons sound like they are working but it won't shred.

SOURCE: I was shredding some old check books and jammed

Try soaking the clogs with hot soapy water overnight.

Soap disolves paper.

SOURCE: it will not shred - the reverse works fine

UNPLUG THE MACHINE AND TRY CLEANING THE "EYES" WITH A SOFT CLOTH. IF THAT DOSN'T DO IT YOU MAY HAVE DEFECTIVE EYES OR PCB...YOU CAN CALL ROYAL FOR PARTS AT 1-800-524-0799.

Either the "eyes" are dirty or faulty, or the pcb has gone. Call Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts availability. When you get it working again only run the unit at 70% of its max rating... this provides less stress on the motor and internal parts.. the machine will last longer and you will have fewer jams.
