Question about Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Remote or buttons on the set won't work, even to shut it off. It has to be unplugged to turn off. Vizio tech support no help at all. 18 month old set, in short I'm disgusted.
Hello there Brian, sorry to hear about these problems you are having. Also thanks for the model number and all other great information here.
There is only one thing that could cause what you are experiencing that is easily fixed by the end user such as yourself. That would be that something is causing multiple input at the same time, most likely to the infrared port. Basically it would be something similar to a button on the remote being held down constantly. To verify this isn't the problem, take the batteries out of the remote, and take all other device remotes out of the room (could be somehow another remote is sending a signal interfering, never hurts to try to take them all out). Again shut the TV down, by unplugging if you have to.
Let it sit for a good 2 minutes, hit the buttons on the front / side of the TV to make sure all power is drained from the capacitors inside the TV.
Go ahead and plug it back in. Does it immediately turn on without you pressing anything? If so then it has some sort of signal "stuck" in the memory of the TV that is keeping it locked in a permanent on state. Go ahead and try to hold the power button down on the actual TV set for 15 seconds. If this does not power the unit off at this point then you are either having voltage problems (possible faulty power supply) or the software has been corrupted that controls the buttons on the TV. Either way you would need a technician in person to diagnose and repair. Vizio does not have the best reputation for quality products or quality support either. Not trying to be rude or anything, just being forthright.
Hopefully taking the remotes out of the picture completely and doing a hard reboot including holding down the power button to turn off will clear up the issue, if not then it will need physical repairs.
Oh yes, one more thing just came to mind, although this is very unlikely. You may want to check the voltage coming out of the wall outlet to verify that it is normal, this could also cause this issue. You may want to try it in another outlet, use an extension cord if you have to, just for testing purposes.
This should cover every possible scenario. Hope this helps!
Thanks and good luck

No Sound and No Picture is a common problem in Vizio HDTV plasma televison. At this moment, my first check point would be Power Supply Board. Take a Voltmeter and check the continuity across Power supply board. If faulty, note down the part number and order it on online vendor. There are many online vendors like ebay and so on.
Once done, let me know the update.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and Have a nice day!!
