You can get a split link for around 50p to replace the broken one, this means you can remove the chain when ever you want with your bare hands no tools, how ever, to install one you will either need a chain tool or ask a bicycle shop to install one for your on your old chain, they should be able to do this within 5 minutes and charge you next to nothing. I have them on every chain i ever use on any bike, there's nothing like it.

You will need to first determine what the chain broke. If it is because of where you will need to replace the can with a new on. If it was anothe reason then you have a couple options. If you want to repair this yourself you will need to have a bicycle chain tool. Otherwise your local bicycle shop can reinstall the chain for a very low cost, less then the cost of a new chain tool.

If you are going to install it you can remove the bad link and reinstall the chain, however this will likely make you chain too short.

If you are going to replace the chain:
1. Lay the old chain out completely.
2. Cut the new chain the same length as the old chain. If using the quick link provided then make sure to cut the chain with two male ends and make it one link shorter then the original chain.
3.Start installing the chain from the rear derailleur. Start putting the chain in from the lower pulley(wheel on derailleur). Push over the lower pulley and under the upper pulley. Then back up behind and over the cassette (gears on the rear)
4. Now continue pulling the chain to the front. Go through the front derailluer and down around the chainrings.
5. Connect with the other end of the chain.
6.Use the quick link provided with the new chain or push the pin back into the chain (unless in is a shimano chain, then use the provided new pin)

How do you use all the gears on a mgx dsr 21 speed mountain bike?

The way I start inexperienced rider out is by using only the left shifter first. Take a ride and only shift the left side up and down. Remember to pedal when shifting, Backpedaling or coasting may cause the chain to come off. Once you are familiar the left shifter, move to the right one. Up and down several times. Most experienced riders don't use all of the gears and only use the lower gears I steep hilly situatiuons

I need a chain for a 21speed mountain bike it is an older mongoose MGX i dont know what kind or size chain i need can you plz help me out???

Look around for a 7-speed chain. Special tools are involved for 'cutting' it to size so why not just establish a relationship with your Local Bike Shop now?

If it's really worn you'll probably also need to replace the cogs and possibly the chainrings. Old drive train parts don't mesh well with new ones.

Can i stiffen up the tension in my front forks on my mgx dxr?

Sorry to inform you, but there is no adjustments available for the forks that come with your bike. Adjustable forks (just the fork) start in around $250-.

On the positive side since there is not adjustment capability the fork does not need regular servicing like the adjustable forks.

My flywheel is making a grinding noise and seems to be sliping and locks up. What can i do to fix this problem?

if by the flywheel your referring to the back gear cluster than its probably time to get it replaced around 30$ should do it if you dont have the tool to do it a shop call will be needed but take this advise when you drive on the same gears for an extended amount of time they stretch and wear into themselves making any new additions to the drivetrain useless meaning you might have to replace the whole drivetrain ........i myself have gotten caught with this and i had to pay out 350$ as i ride a highend bike so my man get your cluster fixed then have patience as sometimes it wont fit your chain depending on the age of it if and when you fix this shops offer chain checking for free and they have a tool to measure the stretch% ok hope this helps you...............ps all the bike specific tools needed to do these repairs are often the same price as 1 shop call that required them ok little secret

Chain Broke on a Huffy Tundra 18 speed 26" bike. I need to know the size chain to replace or the master link/chain connector to fix the chain.

if the bike has gears it does not have a master link, that is for single speed bikes only.

You will need an 8spd chain for your bike (1/2" x 3/32), these will fit any 6,7 or 8 spd bike. This requires a special tool to install ($8-$25), I would recommend taking into a bike shop and have them do it if you have no experience with this type of chain.

Side note: if you do own the tool, you can repair a broken chain for a temporary fix in the future, so may be worth buying. Check around, many bike shops offer basic repair classes and cover this.

Chain is slipping and jumping gears

okay lets ask why it broke did it get jammed?was it worn?is your front crankset or rear gearset loose with play in it?does the chain make a clicking while pedalling hard? first and last require a replacement chain because it broke for a reason.if your drive gears are loose then you will have to adjust/repair them also checking adjustment on the derailuers should be checked.
hope this helps

My gears dont work

Is the cable broken? You have to be on the bike and pedaling to get them to move, They are pretty simple mechanical things, the only that can go wrong is a broken cable, and maybe out of range stops. It will cause the chain to fall off one end or the other, There are little screws that stop it from going too far. Thumb shifter too tight? Check it out.

I HAVE A MGX MOUNTAIN BIKE. WERE THE PEDAL ARE

im certain that model has a 3 piece crank set up. the inner crank bearing jam nut has loosened up or the bearings themselves have gone bad.first check to see if its tight, if it is then it will require a replacement set of bearing that are a pretty standard size to all bikes and can be purchased at nearly every bike shop.
