Whirlpool cloths washer puts hot water out when set on cold or cool setting. And puts out cold water when set to hot. Yes, the water hoses are set to 'H' for hot and 'C' for cold. The machine is less than a year old. The wife says that this didn't used to be this way yet today it seems as thought the solenoids are wired backwards. What is the problem with it? Haven't touched anything that would affect the temperature settings of the machine.

have you replaced the hoses? it's a good idea to do that every few years anyway (they get old and often burst) ... some hoses have an inline screen filter that can get stopped up thus your washer would only get hot water if the cold water hose was stopped up.
Could you check and see if both the hot and cold hoses hooked to the back of the machine are actually putting out hot and cold water? If they are, it may be time to return the washer to where you bought it and get another. Be blessed.
G'day, simple solutions is to swop your hoses at the back around, you can do this at the taps...
If you only have one hose going into machine, you need to make sure the hose is on the cold water. Some new machines heat water internally, hence they don't need hot water going in at all.
Sounds like you are putting hot water only into your machine.
If you only have a hot water tap in your laundry for washing machine, this cold be a problem as the machines don't cool down the water. If this is the case you might have to look at other plumbing solutions...
Hope this helps, let us know how u get on
The hot and cold water supply hoses that connect the washer from the water supply faucets on the wall to the water connections on the back of the clothes washer usually have filter / sediment screens within there connection fittings at the end of the hoses, these will collect dirt, sand, calcium deposits, etc.,when they trap enough of these materials they will plug up and restrict the flow of water into the clothes washer. Turn off the water faucets at the wall, and you should do this for both hot and cold hoses, disconnect the hoses from the washer and the water faucets, look into the hose ends and pull out the screens and clean them out by running water and what ever you can use to clean them completely!!!!!
Now look inside the water connections on the back of the clothes washer, where you screw the hoses on the washer, and check to see if there are filter screens in there, if there is, remove them and clean out completely also, then reverse the removal process and reconnect the hoses, makeing sure to connect the hot and cold hoses to the right connection on the back of the clothes washer!!
Try filling the washer with water to see if you have corrected the problem.
Make sure hot and cold hoses are correct on the back of the washer!!!!
GOOD LUCK !!!!!!
I also have a Whirlpool washer/dryer for my condo, although I don't know the model number of mine. I had the same problem -- after it was precisely a year old, suddenly one day the hot and cold started coming out reversed. I was able to fix mine by more or less temporarily fiddling with the water pressure. What I did was one time, when the rinse cycle was running and the washer was filling up with hot water (grrrr...), I completely shut off the valve supplying hot water. So at that point the water stopped filling into the washer, and then I started tinkering with the cold water, twisting the valve off and on a few times. Then BINGO, suddenly the cold water "kicked in" and for the remainder of the rinse cycle, it filled the washer with cold water. I then turned the hot water valve back on, and since then it has been running correctly.
Some whirlpool washers have had A similar problem. They had a intermittent water temperature switch issue. Sometimes they put hot water in when cold was selected. This is probably the same problem as yours. I would replace the water temp switch.
if this is a machine with hot and cold hoses connected, check they are the right way round. don't rely on what your hose plumbing says. to check, put on rinse and if hot water flows in, then hoses are the wrong way round
