Please post manufacturer and model number. Most manufactured computers come with a disk that you should be able to boot off of and run a hardware diagnostic on the computer. Won't fix your problem but will help us determine the issue to get you a solution.

This could be due to several things. If the USB keyboard is not enabled, or sometimes even when it is, it may not register in the boot startup. If you have a PS2 keyboard around that you can borrow (old round plug...usually purple), you may be able to use the key and start 'er up again.

I cant install a new operating system into my HDD. My setup does not suportt boot from CD.

The Bios Settings need to be changed to boot from The ATAPI drive. When you turn on computer press the F2 or F1 or Delete button, sometimes its F10. Once you are in the bios setting look for boot devices. Follow the on screen instructions to change the boot order. I hope this helps.

RAM installation

Hi hunter555,

First off, you've done a lot of work for nothing. What you need to do is put back the new memory. When the Dell Bios boots, it confirming that it has detected the new memory. What you need to do is hit the F1 key to reboot and continue on to the XP installation. When you open the case, it will say the same thing. Don't worry about it, it's only confirming that the case was opened. Typically, I shut off the case intrusion detection, only because I'm always adding things to the machines and it's just a extra step I have to take to boot. However, it's good to know that your bios is confirming that you've opened the case, and that you've put in new memory. You want to make sure that the setup recongizes the entire memory in the banks. So, go to the system information page and make sure that it's reading the original and the additional memory 256k you added. Otherwise your done.

Good Luck

Wont load anything including bios

Sounds like your operating system has been damaged and no longer works. You will need to reinstall it.

If its xp then u will need to put the hard drive in another pc to back up any data. If its vista then all your old files will be stored in windows.old on the c drive as long as u dont format it during install.

Hope this helps?
