Sta Right model P2RASF-182L (RPM 3450) sounds like the bearings are gone...turns on, but is very loud and gets very hot.  The water is not circulating either.

If the noise you are hearing is like a grinding, then the bearings are gone. Sta-Rite does not make the motors for their pumps, either AO Smith, or Centurian, makes them, so they recommend that you replace the motor with a new one. You can try a small motor repair shop in your area.

If it is an AO Smith motor, you may be able to find more information at the following website:

Well pump losing prime

you might have a leak in the foot valve, you can try installing a check valve several inches before the intake to maintain a prime, or check and clean/replace the foot valve.

If the pump ran dry, check the inlet fitting. the pump can get hot and melt pvc piping connected to it, causing air to leak in the inlet side.,

Loud motor

Hi kootchbol
Sounds like you have a faulty bearing that is causing your noise and a leaky seal on the back of the pump between the motor and the pump

I have a P6RA6f-2006L Sta-Rite pump for my pool. I just opened the pool and run the pump for about 6 days continuously. And the pump stopped some time today. When I turn it on, I heard loud sound but...

More than likely, the bearings are going out on the motor. Usually you'll hear a loud screeching sound when this happens. You have 2 choices here. You can either take the pump to a local repair shop and have the bearings replaced, or you can replace the motor and pump seal. By replacing the bearings only, you're not guaranteed that the motor will last much longer. I always recommend replacing the motor and seal that way you'll be trouble-free for another 4-6 years.

Where can a find a new pump CHEAP? Current pump is Model C48L2P104 (18 years old). Serial 1B93. Voltage 230 HP 1.5 RPM 3450/1725 Amps 9.2/2.5 Frame 48Y Dura-glas H/L

A new motor and pump parts (if needed) would be cheaper than a whole new pump. Your motor is part number UQS1152R or if you just want a single, high speed motor you could use USQ1152 to replace it. You will likely need a seal and seal insert as well; part number 100 (it may have letters in front like AS100, PS100, etc) and J3-2. A whole new pump you should shop for part #P2RA5YF-182L.

For a quote on the parts from us you can contact us using thru our website at Otherwise, google those numbers to locate your best deal.

Loud buzzing sound began on start up

It could be several things but the most likely are: Something is spinning around with the motor shaft. Unplug the motor and "blast" water through the vent holes to clear debris. Let it dry completely before returning to service. Something could be caught in the impeller. Remove the front end and check. Squeals, loud hums, heat and vibration are indications of bad bearings.

Bad bearing? where?

You will need to figure out where the noise is coming from.If it does it while idling then look under the hood.Could be alternator,a/c clutch, water pump, tensioner. If it is under the hood then remove the serpentine belt and see what pulley you can`t turn by hand.Caution it could be hot.Good luck.

Pump starts and stops frequently . pump will start but not run. Sounds like it will not get up to speed before it stops.

That sounds like the pump is cycling. Is there air in the pump basket or is it full of water? If there is air in the basket, you have a leak somewhere. Could be the lid has a crack, or the o-ring, under the lid has gone bad.

The pump motor may be going out on you also. If it is hot to the touch, there is a safety feature in the pump that will shut it off before it becomes too hot.

Pump works fine, but is very loud

Its probably not a high quality pump, bearings starting to wear is likely the sound you hear.
