Turn both you main jet and air fuel screws all the way not turn them hard because they are pointed at the other end and if you turn them tight you will round them off and then you will have to replace them...after turning them both all the way in turn them both one and a half turns out...start your mower and let it warm up, as it is running now turn your air fuel counterclockwise until it appears to stumble then stop and turn it back 1/8 of a turn. after the mower warms up move your throttle to a higher rpm and adjust the main jet the same way only when it stumbles you must stop and turn it back clockwise 1/4 of a turn.

My MTD Yard machines riding mower won't start.

Probably dead gas from sitting too long. Dump it out & put in fresh gas.Could have moisture in it. Pull out spark plug & crank it over several times after putting gas & let it sit a while to dry out or blow it out with compressed air. It should go.

13.5 riding mower will not start what may be the problem tecumseh yard machine by mtd

does it crank, if yes, then the next two questions does it have spark, pull plugs and hook back up and place where you can see if they get spark no spark magneto/coil, if yes then is the carburetor getting fuel, pour a little down into the carburetor and see if it starts, if it does and then dies then it is a fuel issue; fuel tank is clogged, fuel filter, fuel lines or carburetor needs cleaned and rebuilt. easiest was to see if fuel is getting to carburetor is to disconnect line and see if fuel is flowing out, if it is then the carburetor is the problem. Hope this Helps Tim

Do you have a fuel shut off solenoid on the carburetor? If you do there will two wires going to a solenoid on the bottom/bowl of the carburetor. You need to make sure this is working properly. You may also have some debris or blockage in the main metering jet in the carburetor. Hope this offers some type of help.

MTD 12.5 HP Ride On Mower won't stay running

It could be a needle valve sticking or a mal-adjusted float but more common is a fuel filter that is restricted, once you use up the fuel in the line and float bowl it runs out and dies. A less common but easily tested issue is when the mower has run for the amount of time it begins to sputter and die, loosen the cap on the fuel tank just a bit, if it helps or resolves the issue the vent in the cap may be clogged.

Does the engine turn at all? If it does, the you probably need to replace your fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug.

On small engines, when they get turned over like that, oil tends to go places it shouldn't. Usually that means that your filters, and carburetor, and from there into your cylinder, fouling your spark plug.

Check those items, and replace any that have traces of oil in/on them.
