Question about Desa International Unvented Gas Space Heater

1 Answer

Unvented Heater Paint Breakdown and Various Probs.

Title:Unvented Heater Prob.

Why is this?

The paint on the main surface{behind grill} scorched, burned, and peeled up as if it was not of heat proof quality. This was when the heater was new. I kept it anyway but it finally just got balkier and harder to deal with, would not stay lit or would go out immedialtely after lighting. Sometimes it would stay lit for 3 or 4 days but just would not relight for days on end, then would relight again and so forth and so on. It finally was too much for me and after fighting too many battles with the beast, I have gotten space heaters. I realize the warranty is up but just wondered if any of these problems ever reported to you. Better late than never, wish I'd had a computer sooner as it is so handy to contact your company.

Don't see how a zinc pot is going to solve flaking, curling

paint on the inner firewall of the heater so sounds inappropriate to the first problem I mentioned and basically ignores that one.

As far as the second problem, no explanation on why a galvanic reaction would cause the pilot light to be a permanent dud. If so, why weren't the heaters retrofitted with "zinc pots"? Sounds out in left field of the problem unless you can give a better explanation than this cryptic message.

I sounds like a galvanic reaction!
the reaction can be halted by going to your local boat shop and ask them for a zinc pot!
additionally heat will increase the reaction ten-fold!

Hi I have the Gas Patio Caddie. The coating that is in the inside of the cover is bubbling up and starting to peal off. Can that be resprayed with something or do I need a new cover? If so where can I...

It can be repainted, using spray on, High Heat Grill Paint. Which, you can find at any home center or hardware store, in the paint department. Krylon makes one, as does Duron. I personally like Krylon, as it seems to cover better.

You will need to thoroughly clean the surface of any grease, rust, loose paint, etc. Then wipe the the area to be painted with denatured alcohol and then wipe off any remaining residue before spray painting it. Several light coats is much. much better than two heavy coats. Allow each coat to thoroughly dry, before applying the next coat.

Do not use the grill for 48 hours, after the final coat of paint has been applied.

Hope this helped you and Happy Grilling!!

Kenmore oven cleaning cycle has scorched paint on top panel

I would expect a standard appliance paint to scorch at the exhaust of the machine and would expect enamel paint at that point.

Interior surface of big green egg is flaking off. what cause and what fix. thanks

hello. Eventually the heat and moisture take a toll. Remove all of the flaking with a wire brush then prime and paint it with the special high temperature grill primer and paint now plentiful at home depot, lowes, and many hardware stores. Enjoy your grilling.

Same problem with grill bubbling what to do 2004 niss murano

I've decided to "black" mine out with a high gloss black. First I'm going to take the grill off & see if I can use airplane paint remover on a small area to remove the coating that is bubbling.

If so, then i'll primer the surface & repaint it as is since it should be smooth after the remover works and I scrape it down and wash it clean.

You could then leave it once the clearcoat is removed, re-coat it with clearcoat, or paint it any color, even to match. Automotive spray paint is available at auto-parts stores for this type of material, just get the right can of spray paint.

If I find the paint remover won't work without hurting the actual grill, I'll use some fine grit sandpaper and prep the surface, then primer it and paint it high gloss black. Color choice is optional of course!

Maybe this will help.

Paint inside lid peeling off when I cook

From Don’t worry, it’s not paint. The inside surfaces of our grill lids are not painted, they are coated with baked-on porcelain enamel which cannot peel. What you are noticing is a deposit of grease and smoke that collects during normal use. During use, the grease and smoke vapors slowly oxidize into carbon and collect on the inside of your lid. This deposit will eventually peel, and looks very similar to paint. The peeling normally starts in the center of the lid and spreads outward. It may come off in sheets or flakes, and is shiny on one side and dull on the other. These carbon deposits are non-toxic. But you might want to regularly remove the build-up. Fortunately, the peeling is easy to remove. Simply brush off all loose particles with a brass brush before you start grilling. To prevent future build-up, after every grilling session, while the grill lid is warm—not hot—wipe it with paper towels or a mild soap-and-water solution.

Hi there - I assume you have a rack in the Microwave. What happens is the rack due to putting something in and out of the Microwave some times wears against the back wall of the cooking chamber. As this happens it wears through the paint and exposes the metal casework.

You then get microwave arcing between the metal rack in the microwave and the cooking compartment casing which gives that spitting popping sound. I would say get some white model paint and paint over the scorched spot (as long as its not gone so far as to wear a hole in the case work).

Wait for it to dry and stick the rack back in and try again to warm up a cup of coffee or something and see if it stops.

Also if you pull the grill slightly forward in the holders towards the door and test it you may notice that it doesn't pop as much so I would paint it and pull the grill forward and see if you still get the issue.

Best of luck.

Either one should be fine, but usually appliance paint is high-temperature paint.

The main thing is to be sure the surface is squeaky clean & dry before painting. If the surface is rough, I'd sand it smooth first.
