Question about Desa International Unvented Gas Space Heater

1 Answer

Unvented Heater Paint Breakdown and Various Probs.

Title:Unvented Heater Prob.

Why is this?

The paint on the main surface{behind grill} scorched, burned, and peeled up as if it was not of heat proof quality. This was when the heater was new. I kept it anyway but it finally just got balkier and harder to deal with, would not stay lit or would go out immedialtely after lighting. Sometimes it would stay lit for 3 or 4 days but just would not relight for days on end, then would relight again and so forth and so on. It finally was too much for me and after fighting too many battles with the beast, I have gotten space heaters. I realize the warranty is up but just wondered if any of these problems ever reported to you. Better late than never, wish I'd had a computer sooner as it is so handy to contact your company.

I sounds like a galvanic reaction!
the reaction can be halted by going to your local boat shop and ask them for a zinc pot!
additionally heat will increase the reaction ten-fold!

Why is our ETS heater streaking the walls and ceiling black?

Electric heaters should not give off anything to make the paint go black , paint will change colour from the heat over time . I would say make sure there is nothing behind the heaters causing this to go black .

Ask where you buy your paint they can advise on paint that will not change with the heat .

We have 3 unvented gas heaters that have worked fine. turned them all off while painting work was being done. turned them all back on and the smell of the fumes makes us turn them back off. i took them...

Becky, heaters are picking up the fresh paint smell and making it 50 times worse. Although you may not be able to detect the odor, the heaters are picking it up. You need to turn the heaters completely OFF (pilot lights too). Wait at least 2 weeks before trying to use them again. If you have some good, warm days that you can open some windows, that will help to get the paint odor out of the house.
The odor is really not in the heaters, it's still picking up the fresh paint odor that your nose can't detect.

In addition, if you use commercial carpet cleaning products, the heaters should be turned OFF before cleaning the carpets and remain OFF for several days.

Vent-free Gas Heaters are very, very safe & efficient. But, because they use interior air for combustion, they pickup any strong odors and make them worse. Also, never burn scented candles and operate the heaters at the same time. Scented Candles soot anyway, adding the warm moist heat from the heater(s), will make them soot 50 times worse.

This should solve your problem.

Just had it installed on the wall and it says unvented, does that mean that it does not need to be vented or it needs to be vented. i am still afraid of the gas heater

an unvented heater is just that. unvented. they have a pilot system that shuts off the pilot if room air is depleated. in the instruction manual it will tell you to supply fresh air to the room. these have been out for quite awhile now and are safe to use.

Grandson put something in front of cadet heater. Now it's not working. Is there a reset button?

Yes there is a reset. Take of the front grille and you'll see the button on the front marked "HEATER RESET - PUSH". Make sure your unit is clean and free from lint and dust, which will accumulate over time and use. Inspect the unit for any signs of scorching or damage from whatever was put in front of the heater.

Touch up paint

if your after touch up paint, it depends on the paint on your heater some of them are enamel, powdercoatings, or a high temp paint and you must know what type of paint is on your heater first as they can react badly if you mix paints. If it is a powder coating or a enamel paint you could probably get touch up from a near by wholesaler if heat paint we get from a company in australia as where our shoowroom is but its called stove bright and you can find it on the internet and coast about $25au, and it comes in a spray pack or tin to brush on, you can also get high temp black paint from most auto repair shops or wholesalers so it really depends on your heaters paint job if you don't know what type of paint try manufacturer

Won't start

if the propane cylinder is almost empty you maybe getting a concentration of murcapton(spelling?)this odorant is added to propane so it has an odor.when the gas gets low in the cylinder you can pull more odorant that may have settled in the bottom of the tank over time. there are other reasons since you are dealing with an unvented heating product , such as other odors fron oils, cleaning products, paint, etc. there could other problems so you may want to take it to your local propane store. jr
