I have a meade 4501 telescope. It has an electronic motor, but I've lost the plug-in power supply and need to replace it, but I don't know the voltage or the plug polarity. The motor does not have any model number on it.

Do you know where I may find that information?

Hi there.
I have a meade 4501 telescope and it comes with a battery pack which contains 19 x 1.5v AA batteries. I also use my 12 volt adaptor which works fine and has never needed more power.Hope this helps.

See if a manual is listed on the Meade site Here:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

That shows the power supply voltage.

Where do i look threw on the meade 4501 telescope

There is a hole in the side with turn wheels to adjust focusing, that is where you should plug in your viewing lens.

I have a 10 year old Meade LX10 with Magellan computer. Do I need a separate power supply for the declination motor?

No, just one--- this scope runs off of 12 volt DC battery like a car starter battery pack-- that has a cigarette lighter style 12 volt cable. This plugs into the power console on the telescope. You need the proper 12 volt cable which you can get from Meade and other telescope retailers--

Electronics don't work. Sent back to Meade for a month. Received back from Meade last Friday. Still doesn't work. No lights, no nothing.

You do have batteries ?? or getting power from 12 volt power supply?

If yes -- and NO red light on the telescope control panel, then send it back again! They never fixed it!

Meade LX200 drive system keeps spinning

The older Lx200's go into tracking mode when turned on if they are not recieving a signal from the handbox. It does this on purpose so you can use the telescope without the handbox and still track sky objects. If it is still doing this with the handbox plugged in then you have a bad chip in the electronics and Meade is notorious for not having parts for their older telescopes. Don't send it in to them to repair. It will cost you a fortune to mail back and forth and they still can't repair most electronic problems with their older scopes(from my personal experience).

Problem with lx200gps meade telescope

It might be a voltage or electrical current problem. Make sure your DC power supply is between 12 and 14 volts. Make sure all electrical connections are tight. Where the power cord plugs into the connection panel, make sure the center pin on the panel fits tightly into the plug. It is a Radio Shack type "N" plug. If tou still have a problem, remove the bottom plate from the scope base and make sure all the connectors are properly seated on the circuit board. Check the connector on the end where the black and red wires are. That is a main power connector and if it is too loose it will not conduct enough current. There can be enough voltage drop that the drive motors won't operate, or they will and the scope will slew uncontrollaby. Be careful handling the wires so that you don't damage them. Good luck, Dave
