Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a pioneer elite VSX92-THX receiver. It has suddenly started freezing up and stops responding to remote buttons as well as any button on the front panel. It does not even turn off. I have to unplug and replug it to the mains to reset it. However the same thing happens again. Sometimes it does not even turn on again. Is there a fix to this problem?

Thanks for replying. I know a lot of people are having this problem from reading various threads. I have already ruled out the heat possibility by blowing a fan which did not work. I was really hoping to find a solution through FixYa. I have also written to pioneer technical support. I hope you will understand if I do not wish to pay for your answer as it has not solved my problem. Regards.

Well, I did not receive a solution as according to the expert there is none. I am sure he is right and I am glad he did not give me any useless solutions to try. I would like to however ask for a refund for my money as my problem remains unsolved.

Hello there, sorry to hear about your problems with this receiver. It is a great unit (I have the exact same one for personal use). However it does suffer from the problem you are describing for many people. It could be that a controller chip is getting too hot and locking up. Try blowing a fan over it and see if the problem goes away. If it does the this confirms it, and you will want to get it serviced anyway but at least will know exactly if it's a heat issue or not. That unit does have a thermal protection circuit that would cause the unit to shut down if it overheats, but I would guess that the temperature sensors that control it are near the amps and not the processors. So, if I'm correct, a processor could overheat without causing the unit to shut down.

Unfortunately no matter what the issue ends up being you are going to need to get the unit service, you will want to call Pioneer for either warranty repairs or to have them point you towards and authorized service person in your area.

Here is pioneers number for the department you want: 1-800-421-1404

They are VERY good at taking care of their products and customers. I've sent in a few of these exact units that are customers and they always take care of them.

I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you want to read a little bit about other people having the same woes, check the following thread out:

Hope this helps, thanks much!

Well it sounds like you know all about the hardware then, there is no simple fix for the issue you are experiencing. If you could, please rate my answer highly (fixya has already charged you) and then write in to and ask for a refund. This will at least give me credit on the site here for helping you, and you will still get your money back. Like I said, they have already charged your card the moment you put the information in, it's a "money-back" guarantee. I would really appreciate it if you could give me the 4 thumbs, and I assure you that you will need to have the receiver repaired / serviced.

    Thanks, so sorry about that.

Pioneer vsx-32 won't turn on with remote

Hi, since both remotes suddenly fail, I am assuming the problem is more than likely with the received rather than the remotes.

If you do wish to check your remotes, then point your mobile phone camera at the remote's Infrared lens and press one the remote's buttons. Your mobile phone camera is able to detect Infrared light and in case you remotes are working properly, you should see light coming out of your remote's Infrared lens.

Make sure that no direct sun light is on your receiver because that can effectively block out the signals from your remote controls.

Try the following method to reset your receiver. Unplug your receiver mains cable from the mains wall socket; power your receiver on by pushing the on/off button (nothing will happen obviously) and leave it like that for say 30 minutes. By that time all capacitors in your receiver will have discharged. Plug your received mains cable in the mains wall socket.Push the receiver's on/off button and see if it know responds to your remote controls.

If the problem still persists, you may have a failed Infrared receiver LED. That component can be found inside your receiver. It will take some basic elelectronics skills to get this component replaced. A service manual can help you. You can download it for free from this website:

Good luck.
