It sounds as if there is something in the bottom part of the dishwasher arm (it sprays the water around the bottom of the dishwasher). I would suggest that you take out the baskets and then remove and clean all of the parts that water comes out of as well as the bottom drain. If this works or does not, I would also suggest that you run an empty load using 1/4 cup vinegar. Hope this helps!

Is your Kitchenaid Dishwasher a model KUDI02?
If yes, you need to order item 10 on the page link below:

HI. this sounds like a busted impeller in the pump housing. there are two impellers. one for the wash and one for the drain. the drive shaft will strip the impeller center nut, causing this noise. I would inspect the pump housing for lose impeller action. replace the faulty impeller if found to be damaged.

Wowsers! I did the very same thing for the very same reason....Nothing like a Kitchen Aid, best ever...highest reputation...quietest you can get, stainless steel tub....all you'd ever want in a dishwasher...RIGHT?
WELL, mine did the same thing. Started making some noise..just a little at first (but it grew!). Being handy, I took it apart, certain that there was something in there to explain it...put it back together, and convinced myself thet it was a wee bit better sounding (but it grew!). So, being handy, I went on-line and purchased a complete motor/impeller assembly and installed it. It stayed quiet for a while, maybe six months (but it grew!) I even humbled myself to call a technician out (did I mention that I was handy?) and he listened appreciatively and then shrugged his shoulders and said something like "I dunno", but that he could put in a motor/impeller kit in it..... I finally snapped...it was a piece of junk, and I wouldn't have it in my house any longer. Besides, I couldn't keep throwing money at it. Sorry, but thanks for letting me vent. Anyhoo, I bought a Samsung, and I like it OK. Don't get me wrong, after the Kitchen Aid let down, I don't really trust any of 'em. I put the K/A out by the road and that was the end of it, or so I thought...a knock on the door about six weeks later, and the guy says "I picked up this dishwasher over there, and...is it supposed to make that much noise?"
I said all that just to say this...I feel your pain. Maybe your luck will be better than mine was. You can buy a motor/impeller assembly on line for ~$220.00 I think, but I'm not too sure that it's really worth it.
