This could be a few different issues. Please state whether it is 2 short beeps, 1 long and 1 short, or 1 short and 1 long, all of these are different errors. If it is 2 short beeps you should see an error code on screen(usually 3-5 digits).

If you dont see an error code it is most likely and AMI Bios error and if it is 2 short beeps your IBM has memory problems. If you have no video at all on screen you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your RAM. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn't do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You'll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard.

0190: critical low battery error

When old IBM Think Pads fail to boot it is usually because the CMOS battery has worn out. It is very easy and inexpensive to replace. Youtube has numerous videos showing how to replace it e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZI-8Q2j-zQ

I have an IBM T20 and when I start it up, the screen does not come on, don't hear hard disk working, but the fan is working. There is beeping when started - 3 beeps, then follow by 3 beeps, and then 1...

That is likely. The beeps represent an error code. You might try borrowing an external monitor plugged into your laptop to see if anything shows on that screen when it boots up.

PROBLEM WITH MY IBM TYPWRITTER MODEL 6787.BEEPS

This code does not appear in the users guide. You might try removing the batteries turn off for 30 sec. and restart. This will reset everything to factory defaults.

I power the device on and get the 'IBM ThinkPad' logo screen. Nothing happens after that

Since you are getting the IBM Thinkpad Logo it is confirmed that you have no hardware error. All you need to do is restore the operating system. most of the IBM laptop has an inbuilt recovery option. just press the access IBM/ Thinkvantage (blue button) immediately after pressing the power button and follow the screen..

hope this helps.

MY laptop beep twice and flag error code Bad CRC1, stop POST task

Hi,

sounds as if one of your memory modules is defect.
CRC stands for Cyclic Redundancy Check and is a form of checking the memory.
If you have two modules inside, take on out and see what happens.

Best regards

IBM t42 comes on, beeps twice and goes off, connected and battery

Yes it is the fan, get a can of compressed air and clean the air vents and the CPU fan with that, also i would check into the CMOS battery as it could be dead and needs replacing.
As the laptop starts up hit F1 when you see the IBM logo and check the date and time, that will be a clear indicator IF the CMOS battery is dead because it will not be the right date and time, it should however let you into windows if you put the date and time right (it may take a couple of attempts)

Good luck
