Fault to its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

I appreciate your advice and input. I have spent the afternoon checking voltages and everything is good to the backlight converter. It should stay on but is shutting down. I removed all connections to the T-Con board and removed them and I still have the same symptoms. I spoke with a TV Technician and he advised that it could be the backlight converter as well. I’m going to change those parts to see if that fixes my problem. Since I have audio and video when the backlight convertor is working that seems to be okay in my own head. I haven’t worked in electronics for over 20 years.

Hi again,

Sorry bout the Live Session.

May I suggest something?
Pls try another signal source other than the indoor antenna such as a DVD or even an old VCR.

It is possible that what you are experiencing is video muting due to dirty antenna signal. If even with a stable known to be good video source (DVD) the problem persist, then it is a matter of checking the voltages as indicated in your service manual.

Hope this be of some help/idea even if the chat did not work out. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: sony Tv PFM-42 V1 doesn't show any picture or tv menu

This is a common problem with plasma tvs You did not mention whether you could generate any sound like through your dvd player or something like that. Whether you have audio or not makes a difference on which board may be causing you the problem. Just because it does not have a picture for tv viewing does not mean it won't produce some type of sound through your av1 input. Try it and I'll try to be more specific.

You need to find out if the power supply is putting out 24vdc for the backlight inverter board, it can be that the inverter board has short circuits which will cause the 24vdc to go into shutdown to protect itself, you can disconnect the power cables to the inverter board to see if you will get the 24vdc back.

Hi Genaro,

Blue led light lit solid and yellow led light flashes is an initial attempt of the set to re-light the lamp.Red led flashes and yellow led light solid means that the lamp won't light up that's why it only has sound without the picture.
Since you've replaced the lamp twice and still the symptoms persist, I suspected that the fault came from the ballast board and not on the lamp itself. If the ballast board gone to malfunction, there's no high voltage will produce to light up the lamp and will sensed by the processor and trigger the error code (Flashes/solid led light with color code).

To verify whether the ballast board is faulty or not, check if the lamp will lit by looking through the lamp door louvers at the rear of the cabinet upon turning on the set.
Please let me know what you will find to assist you further.

If your LCD is less then a year old, I would suggest to contact the manufacturers to have it fix under warranty.
The failure on your LCD could be a defective back light inverter or a power supply not providing enough power to the back light inverter board.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

42 plasma tv model42mf230a/37 blue light on no picture no sound

with solid blue led set could be still powering on but would need to verify by checking power supply voltages. if up and signal is present with no menu or audio would be ssb as audio amplifier, micro processor and eeprom are on that board. if voltages are not present you need to offload x and y sustain boards one at a time from power supply and check voltages and if vs comes up with either board disconnected replace that board
