On my WIndows 7 computer it shows that my wireless is connected, but it also says, "Unidentified Network, no internet access" and I can't get on

Click on the network icon (five vertical bars, next to the speaker icon, bottom right of screen). When network window opens, click on name of network. If a blank box opens with a message asking for the network key, enter the security code that you entered after the WEP setting on initial installation.

If this doesn't work then I suggest that you re set the modem to factory default and go through the initial set up again, choosing a new name for the network.

Once you have an Internet Service Provider ,ISP,
you just need a modem and phone line access,
plug modem into phone socket and then into the computer,

My example modem is.........

Speed Touch 5x6v6 - Broadband Modem
Operating System is Windows 7

log on to the modem using Internet Explorer Bar
Type 192.168.254
this will open the modems log on menu
then enter user name and password
its factory default is
user ADMIN
password ADMIN or 1234

once open there are some menu options on the main page

Speed Touch,
Broadband Connection,
Home Network,

to add new user and password,
go to toolbox,
user management,
add new user
add password,(write down username and password)
change default user
save and test
should have a green tick next to new default user now

selecting broadband ... shows both your,
dsl connection and internet connection status,
with a green tick next to each heading.

Home network will show you...
all devices connected to this modems network ie
the other computers and printers etc,
connected on your network.
In network ,select your computer in the menu tree,
select configure
this give you a menu to add info about your computer
ie name info, comupters ip address,
access to the local intranet or the internet

Now lets connect to the internet

select Broadband from front page
menu will open and display
DSL & Internet Connections
here we test internet functionality.on? or off?

Now we go to your computer,
go to start
my network connections
run wizard in my network places
select new connection
follow prompts to the end.

open internet explorer
if web page opens then we are done and finished,
open tools and internet options,
connections and then lan settings
select automatically detect
Apply then close
Test webpage again,
when ok shut down and restart,
to save the computers new settings ,
Test again with internet explorrer.

if no connections run wizard again,

Hope this Helps,Cheers Misterdj

When i connect my laptop into the modem it says local only and i cannot connect to the internet

You need to configure your router WAN settings as your internet service provider.
If your ISP gives you static ip then configure it as static.
If ISP gives user name and password to connect inteernet then configure router as pppoe.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on wireless settings enable wireless then WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router. If you are able to see password in * or # then you need o add new password but if you are able to read it then note down it then you can connect with it.
If you are not able to access router with above ip and user password then press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router.
Then you can access it with above method.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

"Can't find a certificate to log on to wireless network"

If you are getting certificate error message when pulling up a website, check on your date and time set on the computer. Make sure it is correct. If it is and you still are getting the same error, try resetting the internet explorer settings. Do this:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on Tools->Internet Options.
  3. Go to the Advanded Tab.
  4. In the bottom right hand corner there is a box that says Reset. A dialog box will appear, click on Reset.
  5. Close then restart Internet Explorer.

How to set dsl modem

You go to start menu and access the Control Panel. Open Network Connections and make sure the LAN connection is enabled. If not, right click and select Enable. After confirming LAN connection, then go back a page and click Internet Options. Then the page will automatically show you the General Tab. Type in (or verify) home page in the window. eg. . Then select Connections Tab. Remove any connections that appear in the window below. Below that on the same page, select LAN Settings. Check the Automatically Detect option. This will allow your PC to detect your modem and your internet service. Select OK at the bottom and the window will close. Click Start again and select the Internet Explore. If your internet service is active the window will open to your home page. Good Luck!

Limited and unreliable connectivity to a wired modem.

This can be a couple of things. The modem is bad itself as brought up by apihel or it can also be an I.P. conflict as i feel that arthropluera is having. arthropluera should call their internet provider and ask how they can set the I.P. addresses so there is no conflict. you may not get a knowledgeable person the first time you call but try back later and see if the next customer rep can give you the numbers to set your router. also ask if it would be better to be on static or dynamic. i wish i could give you the numbers for the settings myself but the settings will depend solely upon your internet provider.

please let me know if this helps you and if it does please rate me.

If you need to open ports on your router just follow the manual. If you need one just add a comment and I'll get right back to you. If this doesn't work do the same. Go slow and follow instructions. This should fix your problems. Keep track of what you do so it can be undone to start fresh just in case this doesn't work but it should.

GameSpy Arcade is 100% reliant on your Internet connection being fully functional. The same holds true for any games that you want to play online against other people. Firewalls and proxy servers are designed to block your Internet connection in order to minimize the chances that your computer will be accessed (or hacked!) by "unwanted visitors." They also have the unfortunate side-effect of disabling many of the things you might want to do online -- like play games -- since these activities depend on your PC making an unimpeded connection to other computers. Therefore, if you are using a firewall or proxy, Arcade may not function properly nor will you be able to download and install all of the files that you need in order to use the software to play games online.

Connecting to different places online requires access through "ports" in your PC's Internet connection, and firewalls and proxies will close certain ports for your protection. This is not always necessary, but you as the firewall/proxy owner are the only one who can open those ports. We can't do it for you - but we can give you some tips on how to configure your firewall / proxy to allow Arcade to work properly.

What is a firewall or proxy?
Firewalls and proxies are software programs or pieces of hardware designed to protect your computer and/or network from Internet intruders. Some of these are:
  • Windows XP Firewall
  • Norton Internet Security
  • Tiny Personal Firewall
  • Zonealarm
  • Sygate (proxy)
  • Wingate (proxy)
  • Internet Connection Sharing aka ICS - provided by Windows 98SE and higher (proxy)
  • Linksys Routers (hardware firewall)
  • D-Link Routers (hardware firewall)
  • Cisco Routers (hardware firewall)

Working Around the Firewall / Proxy

If you are behind a firewall/proxy and are able to change its settings, Arcade needs the following TCP ports open in order to function:
  • 6667 (IRC)
  • 3783 (Voice Chat Port)
  • 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
  • 28900 (Master Server List Request)
  • 29900 (GP Connection Manager)
  • 29901 (GP Search Manager)
  • 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
  • 6515 (Dplay UDP)
  • 6500 (Query Port)

    Disabling firewalls will not work
Unfortunately, in most cases, firewalls/proxies cannot simply be disabled in order to allow you to use Arcade and your game. Disabling the firewall / proxy will not open the necessary ports. It will simply shut down the firewall/proxy and leave the ports closed. Also, many factors may conflict with your firewall: Internet Connection Sharing, the use of more than one firewall, or your operating system may all cause conflicts that keep you from enjoying Arcade.
  • Special notes to Windows XP users:
Windows XP has a built-in firewall. If you are using 3rd party firewalls/proxies with Windows XP, you will have to consult both the firewall/proxy developer and Microsoft to determine their compatibility with one another. You will also need to speak to your game's developer in order to determine the game's compatibility with WindowsXP, its firewall and your 3rd party firewall/proxy.

Disabling / Setting Permissions on Specific Firewall Programs

We do not recommend disabling your firewall. Disabling it will not make it open up the ports it has already closed. Instead, you need to configure it to allow access to Arcade. This is usually called "giving permission," and can be accomplised quickly by following these steps:

  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 -- The built-in firewall that comes bundled with Windows XP will affect two areas of your Arcade experience: 1) Arcade itself (including the login process, using PlayerSpy, chat, using the Download Manager and playing games) and 2) Hosting any parlor or peer-to-peer games. In order to use Arcade and play games properly with Windows XP, you should follow these steps:

    1) Unblocking GameSpy Arcade During Login: Click the "Unblock" button in the Windows XP firewall prompt the first time you attempt to log into Arcade atfer installing Service Pack 2

    2) Unblocking GameSpy Arcade via Control Panel: If you forgot to click "Unblock" in Step 1, or if you want to be ahead of the curve, you can configure the XP firewall to unblock Arcade via the Windows Control Panel. To do this: Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall. In the Windows Firewall menu, Click on the Exceptions tab. If GameSpy Arcade is not listed, Click on the Add Program button, find GameSpy Arcade on the list of available programs and click the OK button.

    3) Unblocking Your Games: This can be done in one of two ways: a) Either wait for Windows to prompt you to unblock the game and click the Unblock button (this usually happens the first time you attempt to host a game after installing Service Pack 2, or; b) Use the Windows Control Panel to add the game to your list of Exceptions, using the same method listed in step 2 above.

    4) Unblocking Ports: You can take the unblocking process a step further by instructing Windows to open the Firewall to all ports used by GameSpy Arcade and most of its supported games. To do this: Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall. From the Windows Firewall Menu, click on the Exceptions tab, then click on the Add Ports button. From the Add Ports Menu, enter a port from the list of ports at the top of this Arcade support page. Be sure to indicate whether this is a UDP or TCP port (the list above should indicate which it is).
