Yes, take a flashlight and shine it on the screen when it boots. if you can see the screen using the flashlight you have a bad backlight and will need to replace the lcd.

I crashed my Dell Inspirion B130 and used Windows XP CD to restore it. Now all the configurations and files are gone, the screen doesn't look the same and the modem, speakers, ethernet controller, etc are...

I'm affraid you just installed a clean XP on your laptop which would mean that all data has been lost (you probably formatted the hdd at some point).

Such data could be recovered, but it takes quite a lot of work and a pro to do it.

Dell b130 internal system restoration failed

Incase you don't have any thing important on the computer try a factory restore. This will wipe out everthing and make the cmputer like new. To start it power off the laptop. Power it on and hold down ctrl and tap f11 severl times at the Dell logo screen. Try this q couple of times as it may not work the first time. If this does nothing you'll need the os cd (xp cd) tO repair or reinstall windows.

Does Not Turn On

First thing you're gonna want to try is reseating the memory.

Second, see if you can get into the bios by pressing F2, F10, DEL key it depends see if you see something on the screen, sometimes pressing ESC does it. It all depends.

Try that first and let me know what happens.

Dell Inspiron B130 was black when turned on. Holding flashlight to screen, could see desktop and all icons. Was able to open programs, etc., while looking with flashlight. Replaced LCD Inverter listed for...

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Dell inspirion b130

Turn the system over, remove the battery and the hard drive cover to see if the hard drive has simply become disconnected http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1300/en/sm/hdd.htm#wp1084976

as for the wife, I don't have a manual for mine either :(

B130 Monitor Problem

Connect an external monitor at the back of your laptop and see if the display is fine. If the display is fine with the external monitor, it means to say that there's something wrong with your LCD's backlight. You may have to contact Dell Technical Support to check if your system is still under warranty.

Thanks! :)

My laptop screen will not turn on.

sometimes, this happens when the connectors inside the LCD screen come loose. another issue is the motherboard, where it's all connected. believe it or not, sometimes just opening and closing the screen, can make this go away.
