It sounds like it is not getting fuel on it's own in order to operate. I would take a look at the diaphragm. The diaphragm may be bad or torn and leaking air. There are also a couple of small air inlet ports behind the diaphragm. I usually use a small paperclip and make sure the ports are clear. Hope this helps and good luck.

My 5 hp craftsman tiller won't stay running changed gas sprayed carb new plug started it ran ok next day starts won't stay running dies fast like no fuel but can smell gas.

when it dies see if it will restart using a shot of starting spray in the air cleaner if it starts or sputters, sounds as if you have a plugged up carb you will need to dissasemble and soak in white vinegar for a few hours to un clogg (carefull with any gaskets)
if still nothing even with spray then you have a weak/defective coil or dammaged spark plug (start with plug replacement)

I've got a little southland tiller and the thing

Remove the air cleaner and spray carb cleaner into the throat of the carb then try to start. If it starts right up for a second then its a fuel problem and the carb will need to be rebuilt, also check the fuel lines and filter. If it wont run for a second on the prime then you have an ignition or compression problem.

Earthquake tiller viper 43cc engine will not start

I have the same issue, I thought it was the carburetor so I cleaned it and put it back together, same issue, I put a new carburetor on it same issue, has great spark, if I spray carb cleaner into it, it will start and run for a few seconds even throttle up, but then it dies, and will not start again without carb cleaner spray, and fuel is fresh and properly mixed, very confusing indeed.

My rear tine tiller, 18 inch - model #21AA40M1029 by yard machine has been sitting in my storage shed for two years and will not crank. I have changed the old spark plug with a new one and I have drained...

need to check for spark---- magneto [magnet-pulse to coil] may have rust causing failed spark can clean lightly with sandpaper but more than likely u need to clean the carb-buy a rebuild kit about 10 bucks -take off carb tear apart and let soak in parts cleaner use a carb cleaner and spray all the nooks and crannys in carb rebuild replace and try firing up because more than likely the carb is completely gummed up from the old gas

Mantis tiller starts but will not stay running

Carburetor problem. Two stroke engines use oil mixed with gas. Old fuel or setting over the winter will cause varnish and sludge in the Carburetor. Start by buying a can of carburetor cleaner and mixing a new can of fuel.
1) Dump the old fuel and check replace it with new.
2) Remove the air cleaner.
3) Pump the prime bulb 3 or 4 times, set the choke, spray the insides of the carb with the cleaner and then try and start it . It should sputter and run for a few second but chances are it will take a few sprays to clean the jets

I have a sears garden tiller model 825 that starts and runs with choke. When choke is released it dies. Will not run unless choke is on.

Fuel related issues
Do you have clean and fresh fuel?
Remove carb and bench it and dismantle and use carb. cleaner and air and find all orifices and clean and blow out dry reassemble and reinstall
Check for proper fuel delivery from fuel tank
if you have a fuel filter replace it

The engine will not throttle up and it runs rough. Dies at an idle. Whats wrong Already changed spark plug and put new gas in

Sounds like the carb is needing a good cleaning. Get a spray can of Berryman's Carb spray cleaner.
Take the carb off and clean the carb bowl (if it's a 4 stroke motor) and remove the gas line, and with the spray tube nozzle, spray out as much of the jets, orifices, etc in your carb, let it dry out and reassemble.
Also, take the air filter/cleaner off and make sure it's clean. If it's full of dust and dirt, it will choke the carb off and it'll die at idle.
You can test this by removing the air filter element and starting the tiller. Alot of the small engines have a low oil sensing device and will shut down the engine if there is insufficient oil in the crankcase... be sure to check that too.
Let me know how it goes.

When my yard machine tiller goes from choke to run it it dies out what could be the problem

The carb float bowl needs to be taken off (1'2 inch bolt on bottom of carb) and float bowl cleaned out usually you will find debree and water in there reinstall the float bowl if this doesn't do it remove the carb, disassemble, and soak or spray wiith carb cleaner the blow out passages with compressed air. Reassemble without bending float tab.

Carb pumps air back into fuel supply line engine will start with gas sprayed into carb but as soon as it runs out, engine will die. Primer bulb will pump up until it gets hard, but even after the engine...

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. You can also use the Den Tek Brush to clean the jet in carb. if it has one. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.
