Not good.
OK, Tap F8 when the computer is starting up.
When you see a menu, choose "Last Known Good Configuration".
That may undo what you did.
If not, hit "Delete" when the computer is starting up to get into BIOS.
Look for "Halt On" and choose "No Errors".
Save and restart.
If still nothing, get into your BIOS again.
Look for "External Cache" and "Disable".
Restart and see if you can start up windows.
If you can, get into BIOS again and "Enable External Cache" as this will effect your system's performance.
If you still can't get into windows try Safe Mode by tapping F8 again.
Do a "Scan Disk" by clicking on computer, right clicking your C: drive and look under tools. If necessary, do a "Disk Defrag" after.
The second last step is a "System Recovery" which you should look up how to do for your computer, as HP is different from other computers etc.
The last step? Reinstall operating system.

Problem when downloading file says installer integrity check has failed. common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. cannot install files.

If you're reading the file from a CD-ROM, then either:
* the CD-ROM drive is reading incorrectly,
* the CD-ROM is scratched, and thus cannot be read 100% correctly,
* bad RAM in your computer, that "corrupts" the data being read from the disk into the RAM.

Replace the CD-ROM.
Replace the CD disk.
Download "MEMTEST86+", and run it, to test the RAM; replace, if necessary.

  • Troubleshooting Setup and Install If your device is not recognized:
    • Verify that your cable is USB 2.0 high-speed compliant.
    • Ensure that your cable is connected correctly. Remove the USB cable, look at the end of the cable, and then match it to the pattern on the USB port. Make sure that it is not upside down. Insert one end of the USB cable completely into the USB port on the HP device and the other end into the back of the computer.
    • Check that the peripheral is turned on. Peripherals will not be recognized if the power is off.
    • Ensure that your USB cable is no more than 15 feet or 5 meters in length.
    • Check that the USB port is enabled. Some computers ship with disabled USB ports.

This is the inherent risk in updating firmware to optical drives.

Buy a new drive, power down the PC, install it and reboot the PC. If it is and IDE drive, or a SATA for that matter, before you buy a new drive make sure to disconnect and reconnect both ends of the cable prior to replacing it, just to be sure it wasn't an accidentally dislodged cable causing the problem.

MEMORY UPGRADE

Sorry for the delay in my response.

Your computer will accept a maximum of 1 GB of memory. If both memory modules are the same brand and part number then it is possible that one of the sticks are bad.

Try each 512 MB memory stick in the first memory slot, without installing a second stick. This will troubleshoot to find out if one of the 512 memory sticks are bad. If both check out ok, then the problem is with the video adaptor.

Have you tried adjusting the refresh rate on the monitor as I described in my first response?

My final possible solution would be to upgrade the bios. Below is a link to the webpage for your computer system. You will find links for troubleshooting guides, driver and software downloads, product specifications, etc. If you click on driver downloads, then choose your operating system, you will be directed to a page that should provide the latest ROM (bios) update.

HP zt1170 freezing, blue-screen, IRQL errors, etc

First of all, I recommend you to try using the Notebook with the RAM you had purchased...and remove the preinstalled ones.

Try using the 512 MB of RAM you had purchased by inserting it into the other slot if you receive Bluescreens with the RAM installed in one slot.

If you receive the same Bluescreen errors again and again, the issue can be with a damaged Hard Drive which might be having some bad sectors.

Additionally, IRQL not less or equal error message you receive indicates that few of the Device Drivers you had installed are incompatible.

Check them if you are downloading and installing the required drivers from any third party website other than from HP.

Hope this helps...
