Question about Refrigerators

Maytag frost free freezer ices up

The back of the freezer, where the vents are for the cold air to come out, ice up within one week of defrosting. This eventually causes my refrigerator to also stop cooling. Can the problem be the defroster sensor that is hanging down in the back left corner? I actually have problems with three out of four Maytag appliances I have. I will not buy them again.

The problem is with the freezer fan. it supplies the air thaqt cools the refrigerator. If the fan rpms are to slow it needs to be replaced this should solve your problem. The fan costs around $80.00 just for the part. The replacement of this fan is labor intensive, because you have to contort yourself to reach the electrical connection.

Top shelves in freezer not freezing food. Also no ice from ice maker. Seems cold air has stopped coming out of top vent

We had the same problem with our refrigerator just yesterday. Defrosting (even tho frost-free) cleared up the airflow problem-- If it's frost-free, when it defrosts enough to allow air flow, the automatic defrost can take over. Cause was stored food blocking the vent between the freezer and lower part of fridge.

Maytag msd2641kew fridge side is not cooling its warm . freezer is still cold notice some of the ice look like it was starting to melt a litte. turned freezer up acouple of hours ago stuff is staying...

Sounds like a defrost problem, is there ice on the back wall of the freezer? If so the defrost system has failed. The most common repair is a Part# 67004757 defrost thermostat and adaptive defrost board Part# 67004704. Even with the parts in your hand, you will need to de-ice the freezer to replace the thermostat in the freezer section, then unplug unit to replace the adaptive defrost board located in the controls of the refrigerator section. Normally it can take about an hour to complete.
Good Luck

The freezer side is very cold but in the refrigerator not much cold.

Check evaporator fan inside the freezer
Check condensor fan underneath in back
Check for ice buildup in the evaporator coils (Defrost Problem.)
Also ice and/or frost on the back wall of freezer (defrost problem)
Check air vent for ice block from freezer to refrigerator inside the fridge.
Should have low air volume to fridge from freezer.

If this was helpful please rate me.

My frost-free refrigerator is accumulating frost in the freezer and the and things are melting. the fridge below is too warm. the vents that circulate cold air to the fridge are clooged with ice.

You have a defrost problem. Unplug the refrigerator and put the food in something to keep it cold. If you feel comfortable, remove the cover on the rear inside the freezer and use a hair dryer to melt out all the ice. Do NOT try to chip out the ice or you will damage something. The problem could be the heater burned out, the terminator is faulty, or the defrost timer is bad. But once the ice is out, you can put it back together, the unit will work normally for a week or more before it ices up again. That will give you time to fix it, or call in a repairman.

Frosts up wont get cold MCBR1000S

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Refrigerator is barley cold, still makes ice, condensation inside of frostless freezer

Hi: The fact that it still makes ice tells me the freezer is a zero degrees. When you said condensation in the freezer did you mean frost? If your defrost heater fails it will cause the frost free freezer to build up frost. The frost will build up and block the vent that supplies the cold air to the fresh food. The defrost heater is behind the metal wall at the back of the freezer, at the very bottom. A glass tube with a metal coil in it. The coil can break and stop the defrosting. Replace that. Use a hair dryer to melt the frost from behind the panel. All of it top to bottom. You need to remove all the frost to free up the airways. I hope this helps, Jeff

Maytag model MQU1556AEW, frost-free freezer forms ice in bottom.

I'm not sure if this will help but the freezer that is located on the bottom of my refrigerator started forming ice on the back part where the cold air was supposed to be coming out. I kept hearing a hissing sound like water dripping on a hot surface. I called the repair man in and he had to replace the defrost timer. Once he did that it worked like a charm.

I am not an expert by any means although removing ice from a frost-free freezer is a pain and this took care of the problem for me. Good luck!

Is there ice build up in the freezer? Ours does this we have to remove the bottom & above draw & bang the back plate until the ice built up behind it breaks off & falls down onto a tea towel & then you hear the fan start whirring again, it sounds brutal so wrap your hand in a spare tea towel, but bash away till the ice comes out & fan whir's again, as this fan circulates the cold air into maintaining fridge temperature ?? That's the only way ours then chills fridge again, so much for frost free fridge freezers eh! ??
