No it does not. It has ntsc which is the old standard and wont work with digital signal, the set also has enhanced definintion (EDTV) and it can handle HD but is not true HD.

Hi, I live in a flat in London with a shared rooftop aerial (no idea of spec). I have a Sony KDL-46X2000. The built-in freeview tuner doesn't seem to recieve any HD channels. Is the built-in tuner the...

Make sure you have a good connection from antenna to TV. Check antenna and cable and cable connection to TV. Select DIGITAL button on TV remote when wanting HD channels. Remember HD channels are always digital. Also, any given TV station may not be broadcasting in HD at a given time. They can broadcast in digital but in standard definition sometimes. Your TV has a built-in DVB-T tuner. Try executing a channel scan to pick up all available channels. On-screen menus go to Digital Setup, then Digital Tuning, you can auto-tune or manual tune channels. The TV should take a few min. to scan thru available channels and store the channels its finds. Check with anyone in your area to see if they get HD channels (it is possible to be outside of the range of some TV stations) Your TV is a 2006 model and should still be compatible with local digital TV broadcasts but keep in mind digital signals could change in the near future (DVB-T2) and you may need a tuner/converter box to make the TV compatible.

Can't view local HD with built-in QAM tuner on Sharp Aquos LED

I found this solution at ehow.com and it works: http://www.ehow.com/how_5417083_hd-channels-comcast.html. You'll just have to switch over to another input to view the HD channels.

Is the rca true flat tv able to be used by putting up an antena -or will we need a convertor box ? currently we have direct tv and are thinking about canceling it and use an antena.

This model does not have a built in HD tuner (ATSC Tuner). You would need an HD antenna (that is a more recent antenna that receives UHF) and an HD converter box to get the newly broadcast HD signals.

Do we need to buy an antenna to get this TV ready for Digital TV?

LCD TV refers to the substance that creates the picture quality (it would be either LCD or Plasma or Tube) and HD refers to a crisp clear picture that can be attained. So your TV is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV that is capable of receiving and displaying HD (High Definition) Picture.

What you need to check for is whether the TV has a built-in Tuner. This will either be SD (standard definition) TV Tuner or an HD TV Tuner. The box it came in will tell you or you may still have stickers on your TV.

If it has a built-in SD tuner you will be able to pick up HD channels but in a lower quality. In this case you will only need to plug the TV into a Wall-socket antenna or rabbit-ear antenna.

If it has a built-in HD Tuner you will be able to pick up HD Channels in full HD quaility picture. Simply by plugging the TV into a Wall-socket antenna or rabbit-ear antenna.

If your TV does NOT have a built-in TV-Tuner then this TV is clasified as "HD Ready". Which means that you have to purchase a Set Top Box (STB). you can get either HD or SD set top boxes. In this instance you will plug the cable from the wall socket into the STB then from the STB into the TV using either an HDMI cable (as long as your TV has an HDMI input) or through RCA cables which will be coloured Green, Blue and Red (i think red)

By the Way - best picture quality is from a wall-socket antenna.
HDMI = High Definition Multimedia Interface
STB = Set Top Box
High Definiton RCA cables will also be refered to as YPbPr/YCbCr (depending on equipment)
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display (the method used to make the picture on your TV screen)

If you have anymore questions, ask away.

Cant figure out how to turn on hd radio

Most likely, you need to buy an HD Tuner kit. I had the same problem, and after some research, found that "HD Ready" apparently means "buy more equipment". Nice...right?

PROBLEM WITH GETTING LOCAL hd CHANNELS

You need to have a set top box.

By law, as of March 1, 2007, almost all televisions should include a built-in tuner (called HDTV, digital, or ATSC tuners) that can receive high-definition programs over the air by simply connecting an antenna. Your HDTV doesn't have such a tuner, you'll need to connect an external tuner (or cable or satellite box) to watch high-definition programming. External over-the-air HDTV tuners currently cost at least $150.

HD ready?

The TV is just HD ready (doesn't have the HD tuner built-in), you need a separate HD tuner connected to your TV.
