There is NO WAY to tell everything that has been damaged on your computer without testing. You might replace the power supply only to find your motherboard does not work. You may find your DVD drive works, but not your hard drive. You may find that slot 3 no longer functions but slot 2 works fine.

**** You are correct again. Same thing happened to me and I replaced the power supply to find that it got my modem. Almost no way to stop the complete surge for every entry point. Sea Breeze

Thanks for the thumbs up, I have been needing it lately. There are some people that come to FixYa to ask for illegal sofware keys. Well seems they even gave me a not helpful rate when I told them the facts. DickCanFixit, you are straight forward with your answers. I like that! Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a Vizio model E601I-A3, lightning struck outside my house and fried some of my electronics, despite everything being plugged into a surge protector, anyway it's getting power but I have no picture...

Replace the TV as it has been damaged by a power surge and the faults will be recurring.
A home surge protector will do nothing to break the power of lightning.

My HDTV went out in a lightening storm. What could it be?

Is your TV plugged into a surge protector? If not it very well may have gotten a power surge during the lightening storm that fried components in the TV.
Or is the TV connected to a cable box? It could be that the cable box took the hit if it's not plugged into a surge protector.
Or a possibility of both.

PS3 Power Surge.

Get a surge protector for your most loved systems, that way the worst case scenario is you will need a cord replacement. Unplugging it when it's not in use may also cool it down.

We had a near lightning strike and now my tv (sanyo model ht27744)doesn't want to come on.

Lightening may have caused a surge on your power lines to the house and to the outlet the TV was on.
Do other things work on that outlet? If not you tripped a power breaker. If they do work check this.
Unplug the TV for 2 min or more and plug back in.
Try bypassing your surge protector you had it plugged into. It could have died when the lightening struck.
(no surge protector?) Bet you'll buy one for your next TV.
Look for 3000 joules and up rating for a surge protector and insure it has protection for a cable/antenna input too.
If this doesn't work the TV may be fried or internal fuse blown.
Time to take it to a repair shop or depending on it's age (5 years+) it may be time to buy a new TV and surge protector.
Near Lightening strikes can effect appliances from several inputs that could be affected from outside like Power, Cable, Antennas, Phone Lines that come into your house.

Tv hooked to cable system and next door neighbor had a lightening strike. After that, the tv does not work any longer--no power light at all.!

Your TV got fried when the lightning struck. Time to get another one.

This time be sure you plug it into a surge protector power bar, available at radio shack, walmart, any TV or computer store.

Last night I turned-off my PC througg Windows and when I pushed the power button this morning nothing hapened. There is no sign of "life" from the PC.

Check the power source to the computer (both ends of the cord), if a surge protector is in line with the power , remove it and plug the computer straight into the wall. also check the wall plug with a lamp or something to ensure power there. make sure the switch on the power supply hasnt been changed to the 220v side.
If no power at the wall- check your breaker box in the house
If it works plugged straight into the wall- check the surge protector
If power at the wall and plugged straight into the computer (no surge protector) and nothing lights up when you turn it on- have your power supply checked.
