Your Operating System probably corrupted due to unexpected power failure or any other reason. You may have to setup widows again.

Before reinstallation take backup of all necessary file in a separate Hard Disk from your (C: ) Drive , existing desktop , my documents , share folder, etc. to do this you have to connect you Hard Disk with another workable PC.

After taking all necessary backup, setup Windows freshly and it is recommended to format C drive during fresh setup.

Hello, I own an acer aspire one ZG5 netbook, and today I got an error while trying to start it, the blue screen to be exact. Here's the error: A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to...

Hi Stefi,

An unmountable boot volume error means that the operating system cannot boot from the hard drive either because the boot files are corrupted, the hard drive is faulty or there is a problem with the cable connecting the hard drive to the computer. If you are booting your PC and come across a Blue Screen of Death stating UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME, don't despair.

You would need to repair the volume inorder to fix this issues.

To repair the volume, follow these steps:

  1. Start your computer by inserting the Windows startup disks or the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive.
  2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option.
  3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
  4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.

Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
  6. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
  7. After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.
If this procedure does not work, repeat it, but type fixboot instead of chkdsk /r in step 5.

Hope this helps .
Please let me know if you need further help

If this is a corruption it may be fixable, again this depends upon your version of windows, however please be aware this may be a corrupt hard drive so you may need to replace this and reinstall.

Try this first

Your hard drive might be bad - go to the setup or BIOS and check if it's detected. If it's not listed then check your hard drive - re-seat and reboot the computer.
