Try turning the off pilot on knob to off and then turnign the temperature dial to the coldest position. then turn to pilot, relight and see if that works.

Put in gas valve, a few days later sensor set lock out due to flamible sensor setting off. what are the codes to unlock system?

Air intake is probably clogged, so combustion air flow slowed and caused overheating inside combustion chamber.
This tripped FV system and broke TRD, which is a small glass vial located under burner. The spring-activated air baffle snapped closed and shut off air supply, and also tripped FV lockout of gas control.
Remove burner, replace glass vial ordered from Richmond, and clean air intake.

Need gas control unit& burner for water heater 40 gallon

Reliance is AO Smith.
Each gas control has identifying information on side of gas control valve. Make sure you order for NG natural gas or LP propane gas, since these are two different gas control valves.
Google search the gas control number and results will show.

I have a atwood model g6a-7 hot water heater, when you light pilot and after holding knob you turn to light burner the pilot goes out, i have replaced the jade pilot or thermal coupler with no help to the...

Sounds like it. Before replacing gas control, try removing thermocouple connection at valve and spray electrical cleaner in there and blow out with compressed air after, being careful not to get it in your eyes. If no electrical cleaner, try WD-40 and blow out after. If you twist up a piece of fine steel wool and insert in there as well and try to spin/twist it to clean contact inside may help as well. Blow out goo after and re-install fitting and try again. If that doesn"t work, replace gas control.
P.S. Highly recommend certified experienced tech perform this control valve replacement if necessary.

Model 640HORT Reliance 606 40 gal LPgas came to cabin, water cold, lit; ran for 4 hours, flame went out, burner won't come on.

It does sound like a weak pilot thermocouple. Change the thermocouple first. Make sure you have an adequate supply of propane serving the water heater. If it still works for a while then completely shuts down, you will need to replace the control valve. Call Reliance and see if the unit is still under warranty, you may be able to get free parts.

I have a 6 gal. atwood water heater and it seems to blow the thermal coupler and won't light or start gas to light up

Sometimes a simple cleaning can get you up and running again. Undo the fitting at the gas valve and carefully (make sure you don't "Kink" the line) remove it from gas valve, and clean the end that makes contact inside the gas valve with fine steel wool. then spray WD-40 or similar inside hole it came out of, and also roll up a piece of that steel wool small enough and long enough to insert in that hole and spin it to clean surface in there as well, and blow out after with compressed air if you can. If you pull straight out on probe end by burner, (grab base with pair of pliers where it's in holder ) you can also clean it good with steel wool and push it back in to position as well when done. Do not "kink" any of it. If that doesn't help, you may need a new one, but if you recently replaced it and are still having trouble lighting water heater, you may end up having to replace gas control.

How do you remove the gas pilot valve from the tank?

It's threaded in. Turn counterclockwise. May take a big pair of channel lock pliers or similar.

Water heater in my 1988 minne has spark at ignitor but no gas has gas inlp tank

turn off LP tank valve. let sit for 5-10 minutes, then slowly open LP tank valve. opening the valve too quickly cause a ck valve to close. It's a safty in the event of excessive gas escape like a damaged regulator or hose. just barely crack it open and let the system balance. do not open suddenly.
Good Luck
