Question about GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System

1 Answer

When I fisrst connected system to phone line thru rj31x jack everything seemed to work as it should. When I deliberately created an alarm the system seized the phone line, dialed my cell phone, and told me which door created the alarm. When I hung up my cell phone my house phone read "no Line" and there was no dial tone. When I disconnected the line from the panel to the rj31x jack at the jack my house phone came back on line. If I reconnect to the rj31jack I again get "no Line" and a dead phone. Any ideas?

When you get the call on your cell are you supposed to do something to let the panel know the signal went through. It sounds like it still has the line siezed for some reason.

If I'm understanding right, you are plugging in a regular "residential" phone into a phone system jack. The system phones work differently than home phones and you won't get a dial tone out of the jack unless you use a system phone.

How do i connect comcast phone using 2 phone numbers to a alarm panel

It's pretty straightforward, but I'm guessing that you are not using an Arris or Adtran box. Since you asked, you probably have modular jacks that give you dial tone. You run a cable to the alarm system, terminating the alarm end on RJ-31x jacks. The other end gets punched down on a block, then you jumper the IN pair to the modular jack from the Comcast and the OUT to the house wiring or phone system.

You can Google the phrase "how to wire an RJ31x jack" and get either a simple discussion or complete step-by-step instructions on the subject. http://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+wire+an+rj-31x+jack&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&rlz=1I7ADFA_en#sclient=psy&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us%3AIE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ADFA_en&source=hp&q=how%20to%20wire%20an%20rj31x%20jack&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=how+to+wire+an+rj-31x+jack&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=7b989c6c17f79c85&pf=p&pdl=300

If you had a 8 pin jack (RJ31X) hook you ring and tip to #4 and #5. You can also plug a regular phone cord directly into the unit ito the left hand outlet on the board.

Comcast Digital Voice/ADT alam system

The 2 jacks on the back of the Arris modem are labeled "1/2" & "2". The first jack labeled "1/2" means that the jack is capable supporting 2 different phone numbers, a line 1 and a line 2. The second jack labeled "2" means that it is capable of supporting only a second phone number. Therefore your 1 phone number is working correctly from the port labeled "1/2".

There are different types of phone splitters. It is possible that the one you used may have been to split lines 1 & 2 on a single jack into two seperate jacks. Take a closer look at the splitter and see if the 2 ports are labeled differently.

Hope that helps.

Removed alarm system; now phone won't work

In the alarm system there was a jack called an RJ31X. This jack is suposed to have the line run from the teleco interface to it and then back out to the rest of the house(except for DSL, it stays ir front of the alarm jack). When the alarm jack was cut out the line bridge was eliminated. To make the line active find the wire that went to the alarm jack and and connect the red wire to the yellow wire and the green wire to the black wire. that should pass the line through to the remainder of the jacks in the house.

Simon 2 wont call a phone

I found this answer on the web. Should to work, I didn't test it. You need an RJ31X jack, that is where it is trying to dial out. The device shorts out the house line, and resets the line and automatically dials out on a clear line through the RJ31X (your six prong plug line. You can not use a CAT 5 plug or pass through, your need the shorting bar. There are screw terminals on the RJ31X, pins 4 & 5, is what you use with red and green wire of the phone wire. Plug in your six wire plug into the RJ31X and your panel. You should discover your phone dials out to your cell number.

There you have it, and now you know why it is not dialing you.

That smaller jack is for your house phones, not Ma Bell.

Now if you look at my Bio, you will discover I am a Power Quality Engineer specializing in surge suppression and lightning protection for burglar alarms, Fire Alarms, CCTV, and Gate Access. You may think I am trying to sell something, and yes I am, but very little profit if at all. I normally sell to dealers in volume. I make the RJ31XDSL Pacifier (or three stage surge suppression). $55.00 each and I will discount it to $35.00 if you choose to buy one. I also recommend that you use a PMM117 Power monitor/surge suppression plug device for your power. This will protect your burg panel from being damaged from under/over voltage plus impulses and surges. This device will cost $77.00, but I can discount it to $39.00 each. Both units are a good investment with your new tiny computer you installed called a burglar alarm. I understand not much respect by most end users for devices like this, but the first lightning strike will wish you had.

have a phone installer run a phone line from the 66 block in the phone closet to wherever the lifeline is. He must install an rj31X jack at the lifeline and wire it in before the phone system and i guarantee it will then work.

Telephone disconnected from first alert professional alarm system

The phone wires run from directly from the telephone company connection to the alarm on the red and green. They return on the other two wires. These wires are hooked to your home phones. That's the UL way to do it. The alarm is supposed to be the first device on the telephone line. You can just run a phone line to the alarm panel. There probably is a diagram inside the cabinet door or a phone jack very near the alarm.

2 Telephone lines and one phone jack

Most of the Cordless 2 line phone BASE UNITS have the connections on the back for line1/line2 or seperate line 1 and line 2 connection. If you have the type of phone with the line1/line2 jack you have to be sure that both lines are on the same wall jack, otherwise make sure the phone you purchase has seperate line jacks and you will have two phone cords going to the base unit.
