The TH-42PV30 has a VGA port (that's the one labeled PC). If your laptop has a VGA output, then you need a VGA cable and a 3.5 mm to 2 RCA audio adapter or cable. (Depending on the adapter, you might need a 3.5 MM audio cable or an RCA audio cable.) Connect the cables with the TV and the laptop off. Then turn on the TV and set it to the PC input before you turn on the laptop. For most versions of the Windows OS, once the laptop is on, right click on the desktop (anywhere with no icons or running programs). You'll see a pop up menu. Select the line "Display Settings". Check if the new "monitor" is detected. Then you can set the display settings for dual or single monitor modes. (A few laptops hide this under Graphics Properties in this menu.)
If the TV is not identified, you may need to access the BIOS and enable the external video port. (Depending on the manufacturer of the laptop, you'll need to press F1, <Esc>, F2, F10 or Delete at the manufacturer's splash screen as the laptop starts up. It's easy to miss the timing. Just try again; I usually hit the key multiple times immediately after turning on the system.)
If your laptop doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need a converter for the type of port to the VGA port. Many laptops have HDMI ports; in that case you'll need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/PETHV-converter-3-5mm-Stereo-Converter/dp/B003O55U8K . Note: HDCP content (commercial Blu-ray or DVDs) will not be displayed on any of these converters. You'll need an HDMI cable, audio output cable and VGA cable in addition to the converter. The same steps as above will be needed when you connect the devices.
I hope this helps.

Use a different vga cable if that doesn't work change the settings on your laptop video output. If yo are not getting a signal from any input main board needs to be replaced to my knowledge most places only refurbish the main board or whole module. they usually ask you to send yours in before they send out a refurbished on.
