RCA converter box cuts off on own and will not restart
I have the same problem and was looking to see if there is a recall on this converter box.... I have two of them and they both do the same thing... and after they cut off and you touch the box it is HOT feeling....there is nothing close to them to cause the excess heat nor block the air vent on them.... mine reset themselves over night one time and started but only lasted for 3 hours and both are off.... I did change the internal setting so that they stay on all the time and not cut off after so many hours of usage.......I got mine at Walmart .. I have the receipts but not the boxes.. I am going to try and return them.. and not get RCA brand....this is a rip off.. because this box is junk....and if Walmart does not have another brand I feel that I will loose the Governement $40.00 off coupon........and hasve to pay full price.... this is a rip off!

You have to look at the output connections of the satellite box and then source a cable to marr it to rca...or scart.
there are scart to rca cables on amazon and eBay ...if the sat box is hdmi or s-video then it is more expensive for a converting cable because you will need a hdmi to rca converter...this downgrades the signal and quality of picture.
Good day, You should have the instruction guide. If not look below. It's there but look closely for the guide itself and how to increase it's size to readable.
Check on the back of the TV to see if there is a 3 and 4 setting, If so, set to 3. With nothing connected to the tv, and using the tv's remote, scan for channels. It should come up with only channel 3. Then using the remote with advanced options, set the the input to either antenna or auto.
Connect the antenna cable to input on the converter box. Using the supplied cable connect the output from the converter box to the TV. Turn the TV on first, followed by the converter box. Then follow the instructions.
Not really easy so you'll have to fight your way thru it. Finding the right setting for the antenna will probably take the most time, requiring a station scan after each adjustment.
Log onto the RCA website and download the RCA SMV Video Converter. The Opal only plays videos that are in one specific format. This converter will put your videos into that exact format (see Resources below).
Install the RCA SMV Video Converter once you have downloaded the software.
Open the RCA SMV Video Converter software to begin putting videos onto your RCA Opal. Connect the RCA Opal to your computer using the USB chord that came with the device.
Wait until the RCA SMV Video Converter software reads that the device has been connected. You will know this when the bottom of the software screen reads “Player Detected: Opal 1GB 2GB.” Select the “Browse” option to find any videos that are on your computer which you wish to add to the RCA Opal. Click the box next to “Transfer output files to OPAL 1GB 2GB after conversion is complete” after you have selected all of the videos which you wish to convert. This will automatically add the videos to your RCA Opal after they have been converted.
Click the “Convert” box after you have selected all of the videos. The videos will automatically begin to convert to the correct format. Once they have been converted, your videos will automatically upload to your RCA Opal.
I would say you got a bad one. They have an auto-shutdown setting, but shutting off as soon as you power it on sounds like a defective converter. How long ago did you purchase it? There should be a 1 year warranty on it. If it is new, return it to the place of purchase. There is also a toll free number on the enclosure that will be able to replace it if it is still under the warranty.
