Question about Audiovox Bath Unlimited D190-5W Curved Shower Rod, White

1 Answer

Why do they say not to mount the curved shower rod on acrylic. Our tub is a three piece so there is nowhere else to attach it.

Mount it above the top of the plastic walls. If you try to attach it thought he plastic, it will eventually twist out of the plastic.

How do i fox a deep scrape on my fiberglass tub?

A deep scratch on an acrylic bathtub can only be fixed with an acrylic repair kit or call a repairman that can repair the acrylic.
This is a very tricky process and should only be attempted by a qualified repair person.

I purchased a 48" curved

you will need to buy an anchor kit at a discount store(K-mart, Walt-mart, Magic Mart, etc) or a home improvement/hardware store. The kit comes with anchors, screws and a mason bit. with the help of another person figure out where your anchoring hardware is going to be mounted, mark the holes with a Sharpe, pencil, pen, etc. drill holes, lightly tap in anchors until they are flush, secure mounting hardware and hang rod. hope this helps Tim

Is it possible to get a piece of acrylic for tub wall 73x48 inches. Our back wall is wider than the standard kit we bought.

Well, you aren't going to find another piece that will integrate with your kit, that's for sure. If the long part of the opening is wider than the standard kit size, that's a good thing because it is fixable. I'm guessing your standard kit size is 72 inches instead of the 73 you have now. You just need to pack out the sides by 1/2" each. Assuming that your kit shower walls are integrated with a tub or with a base, then you can use strips of 1/2" plywood or similar to pack out the studs. Likely you'll have greenboard or some other wall surface above the top of the kit walls, so pack out the studs right up to the ceiling--that way the drywall or other surface will be positioned correctly relative to the shower kit walls.

Crescent rod installation into a acrylic walled shower/tub unit. instructions say differant hardware needed but not included, consult contractor or hardware store for installation.

You will need to seal any holes made in your acrylic walls inside your bath unit. When installing the brackets to the wall, try using a piece of rubber (pre-cut for a custom look) between the acrylic wall and the bracket mounting hardware. Be sure to seal everything with a clear latex caulk that is designed to resist mold.

Acrylic stuff checks and then cracks... junk!

You might try putting some non-hardening filler where it goes over the shaft to distribute the load. Also don't overtighten retaining screw and maybe use a flat washer (brass) if they have one of those lockwashers that digs into the plastic. Any edges and holes are where the cracks start.

I had the same problem. I discovered that an O ring was missing (or I lost it without noticing) from a new diverter that I installed. Just got an O ring that fits on the threaded part of the collar where it meets the pipe. Worked fine. Amazing how a little plastic piece could make such a difference.

Difference between acrylic and fiberglass

Acrylic is a solid sheet material that is heated and vacuum formed to the desired shape. It is then reinforced at the back with fiberglass to give it strength. It is a higher-end material, very durable and super easy to clean. Fiberglass is a material that adheres to a mold and then a gelcoat finish is sprayed onto it. The most common material used in tubs and showers and is the most economical. Cast iron tubs are forged and the finish is applied in powder form while the tub is hot causing the finish to melt onto the cast iron. Synthetic tubs are molded and then a gelcoat finish is applied like the fiberglass tubs.
