The clear plastic connectors that you refer to are not wire nuts, they are connectors. You will have to cut these off, and use wire nuts to wire your fan. Hope this helps

They're called "wire nuts". Turn them counterclockwise to remove, lay the wires you need to join side by side with the ends of the bared sections even and screw the nut on.

Move existing ceiling fan to another location

make sure light switch is off.
start by unscrewing the fan blades. take out bulbs and bulb covers etc.
once all thats down the fan and light switch cover has three screws you can take out and unplug it to get it out of the way. look around the base for some more screws to take out and remove the big cover thats covering the motor. get it out of the way. now you will see the bracket thats holding the motor in place. remove them screws and bolts, but be careful and ready, the motor is heavy, and as it comes down, normally hamptom bay has a coat hanger type hook that will let you hook the hanging motor on the hook long enuff to disconnect the wires ONE AT AT TIME and then put the wire nut back on it just for safety. when they are all disconnected , you can un hang the motor , and then inspect the new fan bracket, it probably fits the same hanger. but if not, you need to take the bracket motor hangar down and get the wires out of it. if the light switch is off IT WONT SHOCK YOU. just dont touch the bare wires to your hands ANYWAY. if they touch each other thats ok. IF THE WALL SWITCH IS OFF. ok now its removed.

Hampton bay ceiling fan stopped lights work

you can test the light switch by temporarily hooking up the light bulb to where the fan normally goes ....the bulb will only work on the highest speed setting but can prove if the switch is bad or not . turn power off before woking in there ... if you know someone with a volt meter then they could quickly test the switch for you .. they can also test the motor for continuity .. .. most of the time the trouble is simply bad connections inside the wire nuts ... like insulation not skinned properly or wire not in the wire nut properly can remove and inspect each connection (power off of course) ... sometimes there is a seperate power line for the fan and light ... so they can be independently controlled externally ... thats not needed when the pull chains are the only off on method ...

Replacing a ceiling fan pull chain light switch.

that is strange
normally a 3 wire switch could only be able to control 2 things + off. black would be common, red would be one fan speed or set of lights and blue would be the other fan speed or set of lights.
if it is a replacement, couldn't you just hook it up like the switch you are removing?

most likely the black wires are grounds for everything and white would be power. hook it up however you like. white power would hook up to the black wire on the switch and then the blue to one light and red to the other set of lights white wires.
good luck!

I have a hampton bay fan with a light kit. the year of it's make is 2003. the light switch chain will not pull properly to turn the light on or off can you help me?

You probably need to replace the switch.

The most difficult part of this process is getting the lamp kit free from the fan.

Turn off the power. Test it by turning the fan/light on. Remove the lamps and the shades to lighten the load. You will find 3 or 4 screws holding the kit onto the fan. Electrically, you will find a green or bare wire, a white wire and a colored wire all connected with small wire nuts, or maybe you will find a plug. Remove them, pull the wires apart. Place the wire nuts back on the wires coming from the fan. Take the light kit and yourself down the ladder. Find the switch and remove it.

Take a picture with your cell phone before you do this so you can refresh your memory when you get back from K-mart/Lowes/Home Depot or where ever you get your hardware with the replacement switch. Reverse the process and proclaim "Let there be light".

Be aware that in some cases the power to the fan is not controlled by the wall switch. Just because the light is off doesn't mean the power is off

Let me know if this helps you.

The top wires, black, white, and green are the ones to hook to just run the fan. The blue wire is wired with the black at the top if you want the lights to work. At the light kit, the blue and white wires power the lights.
