Question about Palm TX Handheld

Palm TX two Batteries?

Someone who sold me a Palm TX advertised that it came with an "external" battery (which I found listed at several sites as a backup to plug in when the main battery was depleted). Now he says that there are two batteries, one that is charged and the other is internal to keep the memory like the bios battery in a PC. I've never heard of such a battery nor can I find any reference to one anywhere on the net. Anyone heard of this "second" battery in the Palm TX?

Actually palm depend on main battery thats why system doesnt let it to drain to protect the data. However its true that there is such thing called "External battery" or "Battery Extender" Basically its a simple battery pack. Its convenient when you far away to AC outlet. Need to replace new batteries & charger

When I went for batteries for MY KX-TG5632, I found they were $20.00 each. I also found I could purchase an entirely new telephone system (base and 4 satellites and chargers, five complete wireless telephones) for just over $95.00. So, I dumped my otherwise perfectly good, but old, telephones and bought the new system.

If you want to get new chargers and batteries, www.batteries.com is a good place to start ... You can go to many of the Big Box stores, Radio Shack has a good selection and there are many other fine retailers where you can purchase these batteries, including several FixYa.com advertisers.

Thank you for your interest in this web site.

Is your zire 72 battery same capability as the original mfg. one? is it easy to replace?? are there different zire 72's or all use the same battery? does it work on international voltage same as...

Fixya doesn't supply batteries. There are several (hundred) places that do so you can shop around and get the best price/value.

Usually the replacement batteries you see have a bigger advertised capacity than your original battery.I haven't seen any of the same size being advertised for quite a while. Having said that you do need to watch as a lot of the extra stuff is really just the stuff printed on the label and nothing else. So you are paying for a standard battery with an extended power label. Don't go too cheap on the battery and look for any customer reviews you can find.

Got new Palm TX out of box (although it is actually a few years old, but was never opened). charged for 3 hrs, but as soon as I unplug power cord, it goes dead. Battery appears not to work. found another...

The batteries have a shelf life. So they can die just from sitting and not being used.

What you can try is charge it and discharge it a 'few' times (few can mean 20-30 or more or less) it can revive the battery.

Replacement battery's are cheap $15 and up. So if you got these free it is worth putting one in.

My TX is frozen on a screen within a document. I read the forum which told someone else to leave it battery-less for a while. How do I remove the battery?

Battery is internal, you would need to take the unit apart. You need to do a hard reset. Is your TX sync'd with the Palm Desktop. If it is not , you will lose all your data when you perform a hard reset. Read this link :

Poor Battery life

Battery life on a portable system is a contentious issue, and manufacturer's marketing of battery life doesn't help the cause a bit.

There are several factors that will determine the ACTUAL battery life of your system versus the ADVERTISED battery life.
  1. Battery type and watt/hour rating. There are 2 types of portable batteries, Lithium Ion (LION) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NMHD) The LION battery is longer lasting and has a more consistant power output than NMHD batteries, and is more expensive. The watt hour capability is based on the number of cells in the battery (normally 4, 6, 9 and sometimes 12 cell batteries are available) The higher the watt hour rating (more cells) the longer it lasts. LION batteries are more expensive and higher watt hour ones are more expensive. So if you took the best price on the battery you bought, or if you got a system on SALE/good deal, you may have gotten the lesser battery in the DEAL.
  2. How the system is used on battery and power management settings. When manufacturers advertise battery life, they use the mose economical use of power configuration to get that possible life. LCD brightness to minimum, nothing running inoptical drive, minimum accesses of HDD, system running in cold room to minimize fan operation and essentially doing just enough with the system to keep it from going too sleep. They turn off every feature that can be turned off, the most powerful brand new battery available, and the "LIFE" they get in that senario, is the one they advertise. So, if you are playing a DVD, with all power management off and the LCD up full bright, your battery life may be less than 10% of the advertised life.
  3. Age/number of recharge cycles of the battery. Battery warranties are generally 1 year by most major manufacturers. This is because they consider the battery a consumable item and it gets used up. The normal battery has a life of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. Some last longer, some don't and are replaced under warranty. If the battery is not a year old, you can likely get it replaced by the manufacturer of the system under warranty.
  4. If you buy a replacement battery, get a LION battery with at least 9 cells. It will be more expensive, but you get what you pay for in batteries.

Palm Tungsten t5 WiFi

I suspect that you're in fact holding a Palm TX and not a T5 as the T5 does not have WiFi. If you're using the Palm SD WiFi adaptor, do a hard reset without the card.

(hold down the ON/OFF button whilst using the reset pin to press the reset button. You'll be asked if you are sure you wish to reset. You'll then be prompted to choose the language caliberate the screen etc..)

After that. Go and download all the updates and drivers from Palm Web site.
