Your door lock assembly needs to be replaced to open the door try the following procedure.
To open the door, get a piece of string and feed it into the door
recess, work it around until both ends come out opposite the door
handle. Pull the string to the side and with your other hand pull the door open. You will need to get a replacement lock assembly for the machine which isn't too hard to fit if you are a bit handy with tools.

On you washer you`ll see a small round plastic door on the right hand side near the bottom. This door can be opened with a small screwdriver (you should see a tiny hole in this cover) insert the driver it into the turn-hole and twist/turn counter-clockwise. Be careful, the edges are very sharp once this little door/cover comes off.
Once removed you`ll first see the drain pump, you might want to unscrew the insert/filter to drain the unit now if there is water present in the basket. You can reach in and there will be a manual release pull string, it should be attached to the pump, but if not feel around. Pull it and the door will release.

I had same problem. After making sure the thread was loaded properly still same thing happened. Then I reloaded the bobbin and made sure the long metal bar on the metal casing fit securely into the half circle slot at the top of the big metal ring that bobbin goes into. After that, just rotated handwheel a couple of times until thread came through. Problem solved.
I have one of this trimmers. It is simple to replace the line. -First line up the arrows on the bottom of the spindle. -Then feed the line back in one of the holes in the side of the spindle (this is the same hole that the cutting string comes out of). -You will see the line come out of the bottom of the spindle. -Take that line a place it in the hole on the bottom of the spindle. -Leave about 9 feet of string hanging out of the weed eater (do the same with the other side). -Then turn the inside wheel (I can't remember if it is clock wise or counter clock-wise but it will only turn one way) most of the string is rolled into the spindle. -Cut the string of about 5 inches out of the weed eater. You're ready to cut!
Rather than taking the top off the machine and fiddling around to find the catch as guest suggests, I got it to open with some strong string. I took a fairly long piece and threaded it into the groove where the door joins the metal front of the machine, on the catch side of the door. Then pull both ends of the string very hard to the left (you may want to wear gloves to protect your hands). Pull hard and move the string up and down until the door opens. Worked for me.
