You may check out local sewing machine shops or even a Bernina dealer (if there is one). There are many Berninas on eBay but verify that the machine has been serviced by a Bernina technician and is guaranteed to be in operating order. Also, shipping could be quite expensive, especially if you include insurance against shipping damage. Check if there are any for-sale-by-owner facilities near you, ie Craigslist in US. Also, are there any Bernina sewing groups in your area? That may be a good place to ask if someone has a machine for sale.

The short answer is to get it serviced at a BERNINA dealer and repair center. To reset the service icon, the technician must go into the diagnostic mode in the machine and reset the service meter. This meter is based on number stitches the machine has performed, and really is a good indicator of how long you should go between services.

The back panel on the BERNINA 1080 is not removable. These machines are cast metal, and the main body does not disassemble. The top of the machine will come off, but what it sounds like is that your bobbin winder is engaged, and the clutch in the machine is preventing the machine from turning. Try disengaging the bobbin winder and see if your machine will run. If not, I would reccomend taking your machine to a certified BERNINA technician for repair.

I know this is an old question, but for anyone looking for an answer to this, the spindle on this machine can be replaced, and it is a fairly cheap replacement. It must be ordered from a BERNINA dealer. You can find a local dealer by using the locater at the attached link.

Sometimes the touch screens can get accidentally re-calibrated incorrectly, and then will not work. It could also be a electrical defect, though this is rare with BERNINA products. I would recommend taking your machine back to the store that you bought it from to have it repaired. BERNINA machines come with a 5 year electronics warranty in the United States, so if it does happen to be an electrical defect, as long as your registered your warranty, this should be covered. If it is anything else, a BERNINA dealer should be able to re-calibrate or repair it fairly easily.

Several sites may have the manual for sale. This site offers the manual for ~$10: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-newhome-234-and-234d.aspx . Alternatively, find a Janome dealer near you and ask if you can get a manual. (With an older Bernina serger, we obtained the manual free from the dealer. We don't live close to that shop but were in the area for other errands.)

You should be able to purchase a replacement belt for your machine. Perhaps a local sewing machine repair shop can get one for you if the Bernina dealer is too far away.

I have the same model and my trustworthy repairman tells me they don't make these anymore so there are no repair parts available. Sorry, but you'll probably have to shop for a new iron.
