Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a GE refrigerator, Model GSH25KGMC The coils in the freezer side are freezing up and the refrigerator side is getting warm. I have replaced the defrost unit on the freezer (glass tube unit at the bottom of the coils)one time and the freezer/refrigerator worked great for a month. I had the same problem a week ago and thawed the unit replaced the same part and it worked for about 5 days. Now I am having this problem on a 5 day cycle where I defrost the coils with a blow dryer and get it working again, this time the defrost unit has not gone bad, the unit is not milky looking and I can still see the wire coils inside the glass. Any good words of wisdom on this one ??

There are three parts to the defrost system You've taken care of the heater do now check defrost thermostat>http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the Motherboard.

Your motherboard is part 801 on diagram 10>http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=210244

Freezer coils freeze up, refrigerator gets warm

You first need to check your defrost heater for continuity if none this is your problem if it has continuity it is good and you will need to replace your adaptive control board part # AP4010220 ? Enter your complete model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for illustrations and correct parts. The model # listed should have a few more digits thats why I ? the part # I listed. There is also a troubleshooting page that can help walk you thru testing these components.

Coils freeze up in freezer and fridge gets warm

You have to completly thaw out the the freezer and dry off all moisture with paper towels then turn back on be sure to wipe the rubber seals down so no moisture is pulled out of the air between the seals of the door and cabnet.

Turbo cool will not turn off in GE side-by-side refrigerator. Replaced circuit board...still stays on

There are three temp sensors in my GE side-by-side model GSS20IEMDWW (two in the freezer and one in the fresh food side). Replacing the temp sensor in the fresh food side was enough to allow the compressor to finally turn off.

For me, the problem manifested with an iced-over evaporator coil inside the freezer compartment. Since the compressor never cycled off (presumably because the temp sensor was providing faulty data about the temp inside the fresh food side, thus causing it to continually attempt to cool), the coils were constantly chilled. Eventually the ice on the coils would block the air flow and the freezer side could no longer freeze

I purchased a pair of inexpensive thermometers from a kitchen store and put one in the freeze and one in the fresh food side so I could occasionally look at the temps to see if it made sense for the compressor to be running - ie, was it really a warm-enough temp for cooling to be required, or was the computer reading faulty sensor data.

Six months later I also needed to replace both temp sensors in the freezer compartment. My refrigerator is about seven years old. I would recommend replacing all of the temp sensors just to rule that out.

Your model may be different, but this will give you an idea of part numbers and relative locations of the parts.

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

Freezer coils freezing, fridge warm

You might want to check and make sure the interior fan is working above the evaporator coils. If the fan isn't working the air won't circulate over the evaporator and it will frost over very quickly, and also cold air won't be pushed into the fridge side.

The fan might turn off when the door is open, hold the door switch shut while you check it.
