Ink Tank Error

I keep having the "Ink Tank Error" or the "two of the same color" or the "can't recognise ink tank" error messages. The ink tank is almost brand new so I know it isn't that. In your archives there is a fix for this on a different model, but it calls for hitting the resume button 4 times, mine doesn't have a resume button.......can you please help, I have a project due very shortly and I'm up against the wall on this one.

Same problem (U150--ink tank cannot be recognized) in a Canon MP610.  Had been working fine.  Tank is half full, at least.  Removed and replaced tank several times.  Turned printer off and on several times.  Printer is one month old!

same problem with the canon pixma iP4500. I've taken it in an out several times, but it gives me the same error message. It will finally work when I turn the printer on and off.

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2008

Yes same error! But I have a brand new Canon MP610. Every time I go to print gives me the message of Doe not recognize C ink tank. I have taken it in and out turned the printer on and off and still can not get to print.

Same here. Two months old mp610. I usually get it working after turning it off and on again

  • Ruthann44 Mar 27, 2008

My solution to the problem was to call Canon and they sent me a new cartridge.

I have Canon MP610 printer and I continue to get the U150 error - "ink tank cannot be recognized".  At first I could solve it by turning the printer off and on a few times.  Now it will not go away, even if I completely power off the printer.  This is a new printer and has only had limited use.  Very frustrating.

Canon IP6700D same issue. Apperently Canon has this across the board with their new carts

I changed the ink cartridges last week and now I get the alarm light with the error code U043 "tank cannot be recognized." I held the stop/reset button for at least a minute, I have shut system down and restarted with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Keep getting, two of same ink color installed~

  • Anonymous May 28, 2008

First the magenta ink ran out-I immediately replaced it. Now I keep getting a message that it can't print because there are 2 of the cyan cartridges-

  • joerisboy Jun 01, 2008

Same problem with Canon MP530. I bought Original Canon CLI-8 ChromaLife Pack an changed all 3 colour inks.

I cannot print because it shows U071 or U140, but all inks are at the right place and full. :-(

  • Anonymous Jul 29, 2008

I've had my MP500 For a couple of years with no problem. All of the sudden, my Magenta ran out and said to replace, but then I kept getting an error U150 , unable to recognize 8BK ink cartridge or that I had 2 cartridges. The 8BK is full. But I got the error for about a month, I just replaced the magenta and the black and the error finally went away. I think I will call CANON to get a replacement black, because other wise I just wasted money.

The problem here is not so much the ink tanks (although that could be a cause), but the contact pins in the printer that touch the gold areas on the little pc card that is on the cartridge. Remove the cartridge, use a probe (or in desparate situations a finger), and feel for the contacts at the front of the cartredge carrier (stick the whatever into the slot that is left when you take the cartridge out of the carrier), and gently pull them upwards. Presto! the cartridge should now work when you put it back into place. You might have to bend the pins upwards a couple of times to get this fix to work, but it sure beats calling Canon every time a cartridge gives these errors! Good luck...

I used a Q-Tip with a little amount of car polish to buff up the electrical contacts on the chip of the cartridge.
So far it has worked.

CanonPIXMA iP90 Color Ink Tank installation problem

yeah it sounds like a cartridge sensors are stuck or broken. i would say to replace the whole print unit. It will need a service support dealer to fit this part unless you can buy it and fir it yourself.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.
