Question about GE Refrigerators

Continuous clicking noise and will not cool

The problem began two years ago. The clicking was annoying but it still could be regulated temp wise. I disconnected (bypassed) the sensor in the top LED panel and that stopped the clicking. Then two years later the clicking began in earnest. Now it will not start the compressor at all and will not cool. The LED works to the point where when you set the temp as warm as it will go it displays the off message. Nothing will start the compressor. I suspect the sensor being by passed may have eventually caused the failure of the main board. It is purely electronic in nature. You can tell it is trying to tell the compressor to start up and then sends a message it is cold enough so it clicks (trying to start but not starting). Seems this is a problem with this unit.

    the model is pds20mfsb
    serial ll056569

Where is the main board located? I assume it is not the board in the LED unit in the top of the fridge part. Also I assume if I buy one and replace they will not take it back if it fails to solve the problem. Would my bypassing the sensor in the LED unit cause a problem and if it was not the problem why did the fridge work properly after I disconnected/bypassed it two years ago? Do I need also to replace that sensor?

HI, Rule number one. Never bypass the sensor in this type of unit. This issue, originally, concerned the actual Main control board(PWB). There is a major issue concerning the circuitry of this board and, it should be replaced asap. Now, concerning the no start issue of the compressor unit. this is the result of a failed P.T.C Relay(start relay). This device receives the signal from the main board to activated the compress, via PWB DISPLAY ASM(Interface). It has failed.

I recommend replacing the following parts. these replacements will restore your unit.

P.T.C RELAY-- WR07X10086-- $61.50

BOARD ASM MAIN CONTROL -- WR55X10656 -- $183.25

SENSOR -- WR55X10025-- $14.25

**NOTE--(The main board is usually found on the middle or, lower backside of the unit. The most common spot will be located near the compressor unit or, just above it in the back mid section of your unit.)

Not necessarily. There was a re-call on the cooling system a few years ago. Check with your mechanic about that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like the focus motor came loose - you need to take it apart and repair the gear that drives the lens assembly for focusing. The noise you're hearing is the motor trying to focus but since the lens cannot focus it continues to run and signals an error.
