My sagem str 6400t/6700t makes a whirring sound as if it is loading when youturn it on but nothing loads.Just get a black screen it worked fine 2 days ago now nothing. Tried to return it to shop but they wont take it without a receipt and it was a present from a relative.
The time on the box flashes but nothing else. Really annoyed.I've checked all the leads are connected correctly. It isn't even a year old and have only used it once, as I couldn't use it at my previous address due to reception and only moved into my new house on friday.
I've a similar problem. It froze during a recording last night. Wouldn't switch on properly or off. I ended up disconnecting it. Reconnected hoping it would reset but it just whirrs loudly then displays 'init' on the box and a blank screen on the tv. Can't find a reset button anywhere on the unit.

My Sagem DVR 6200T/6400T developed this problem. Initially, over a few days when I tried switching on the box via the normal button on the remote, the display would we black (no readout) but the box still made a whirring noise as if it was working and it would take about upto 15 mins for the display to come on and then I could use the remote as normal. After doing this for a couple of days the display evenutally stopped appearing, so the box would keep on making a whirring sound as if its was trying to initialise but nothing would be displayed on the readout and nothing happens if you press the handset. I tried turning it off and on at the mains plug, plugging the connections in and out of the box and television and at one point gave the box a 'smack' out of frustration. Amazingly I momentarily got a flashing error message:- either pb03 or p603 which upon looking online (for ages) apparently means an initialising error which seemed to make sense. NOTE- I do not recommend other people try 'beating up' their box. Anyway, this error never reappeared after turning the box off and on at the mains plug. After further research someone on this fixya site said try changing the Sagem adapor cable. I found an old external hard drive and the adaptor cable, which has the same input and output information as written on the Sagem AC/DC adaptor cable fitted and my sagem box now works fine again. And to think I was on the verge of paying out over £139 for a new box and amazingly all that was wrong with the old box was the cable! Points to note about using a different cable:- make sure the part that plugs into your box is the same size. Another adaptor I had rooted out from an external cd drive worked but it kept on switching the box off because the connection into the box (round plug) was slightly too small. The input should be 100-240V-50/60Hz and the output +12V=2.0A. Apologies for writing so much but because I no nothing about electrics I am trying to explain what I mean in laymens terms. I also suggest if you are in doubt, take your old cable into an electrical store like Maplins and get the advice you need about a new cable that is the same input and output as your sagem adaptor cable so that you do not plug in an AC/DC adaptor that could do further damage. AC/DC adaptors do not cost much and you may find that an universal adaptor set correctly may work.
I would like to thank the person who posted the solution because it worked for me and has saved me a lot of money.
Pop open remote case you will need knife or thin steel ruler to do this. Clean the board contacts and the conductive pads with switch cleaner or isopropyl alcolhol cleaner and you will find it will work fine.
