Can the satellite antenna be simply replaced or is it tied to a specific receiver by the FCC license?

Is it difficult to remove the old antenna?

15mf400t/37 scans for channels but screen remains white with snow and cannot access any channels.

Unfortunately, this monitor/TV is not equipped with an ATSC (digital) tuner. It has an NTSC tuner. To watch over-the-air content, you'll need a converter box with either composite or RF out. See the specification sheet here: https://www.p4c.philips.com/files/1/15mf400t_37/15mf400t_37_pss_.pdf .

I hope this helps. The few low power stations that were able to continue broadcasting NTSC signals for a while after the digital switch either have lost or will soon lose their broadcast license.

Metal prongs on the antenna wire that plugs into the back of my Sirius radio have broken off. Can they be replace?

There are a couple of different ways the antenna connection can break. Docks and antenna replacements are available, though the actual prong itself may be difficult to track down.

I have a wf24t5 that i want to connect to a dish sat hd. how and what do i need to do to connect?

After confirming by viewing the operation manual for this unit, this TV is only capable of inputting a baseband video and standard audio. Unless the Satellite Receiver you have has those type of output jacks then this TV will not be able to reproduce picture or sound from the Receiver. It may be possible to connect through the antenna connection but again the Satellite would need a connector that would output on Channel 3 or 4. Most recent satellite receivers do not offer these ouputs. You indicate that the Receiver you have is High Def. The TV you have is not high def and would drastically down grade the quality of your picture and audio being delivered by the satellite receiver

Hello, I am inquiring about a replacement antenna for my Polk Audio SR H1000 Sirius satellite tuner. Thank you, Donna Sebran

It sounds like you should be able to find a replacement antenna from any of your local electronics retailers, such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. I would take your old antenna with you when you go to look for a replacement, though, to make sure that the plug that is on the end of the new antenna looks exactly like the plug on the old antenna, to be sure that it'll work for your needs.

Oops, misplaced my manual for my Midland LXT walkie talkie radios. How do I get a specific channel to use. When I push the scan button it goes thru channels 1 thru 22 but how do I stop it on a specific...

bobduffy39,

Channels are selected by tapping the center button once then using the arrows. The next tap of the center takes you to the CTCSS, DCS, and other functions follow. When scanning simply tap the transmit button and it should stop on the selected channel. Channels 8-14 are FRS channels at 500mw. These are the preferred channels to use for most people. 1-7and 15-22 are considered GMRS and requires a FCC License. Many people have been known to use these channels without having the license. This form of pirating is not recommended. I have included these links which could be of help to you.

Kenwood RV7030 audio-video stereo has static without antenna

OK I am going to suggest two aerials for you. I would also NOT use the old cable as it will cause a lot of problems. It is best to replace it with the stuff they use for satellite dishes (see image).
The FM aerial will pick up signals from all sides. The TV aerial should give high quality signals and output for at least 5 sets.

Nuvi 350 cannot locate satellites

I own & operate the electronics repair company, Westek Electronics in Nashville, TN. We repair & refurbish GPS units among other things. We have repaired many nuvi 350/360 units with this issue.

This issue is typically due to a hardware malfunction and cannot be remedied by software upgrades, resetting, etc.

Do this test:

  1. Strip a ¼” of a wire twist-tie end (the kind found on bread wrappers) bare exposing the fine wire core.
  2. Power up your nuvi 350/360 and confirm that you are not receiving any signal.
  3. While still powered on, insert the bare-wire end of the twist-tie into the center female external antenna jack located on the side of the antenna. If done correctly the external antenna jack will firmly hold the twist-tie in place. You cannot damage the unit by doing this.
  4. If you now have satellite reception then proceed to step 5. If you still do not have any reception then I have no further advice other than to try all of the update/reset procedures. If all else fails return to Garmin for repair.
  5. Once you have established that you have signal using the twist-tie, remove the twist-tie and confirm signal loss.

Your choices to remedy this issue is as follows:

  1. Purchase & use an external antenna.
  2. Return the GPS to Garmin for repair ($175 if its out-of-warranty). Or,
  3. Send your Garmin Nuvi 350/360 to us for repair. We charge $55 (return shipping included) to repair this malfunction. We can also accommodate this repair transaction via eBay in order to provide you with additional reassurance (an addition $5 is added to cover eBay fees, etc. when using this option). Our eBay ID is westek_electronics, feel free to review our feedback ratings. Our repairs are covered by a 30-day warranty. If for some reason we are unable to successfully complete the repair we will return the unit to you and charge only $10 for return shipping. To initiate your repair contact us at [email protected].

Hope this helps.

Lost satellite reception

This problem is not caused by poor solder joints. It's caused by a defective part. We sent a "marked" defective unit to the repair shop mentioned above and upon its return, disamantled the GPS receiver assembly and made the following evaluation:

1. The shop did NOT replace the defective component causing the initial problem in the 1st place. The defective part was STILL in the circuit.

2. The shop placed a wire jumper between the internal antenna and the external antenna port. This type of modification places a +2.5VDC bias on the internal antenna and essentially shorts the internal antenna to the external antenna (when connected), giving unpredictable results. It also affects the circuit impedance and signal strength. This is not the correct way to resolve this issue.

3. The defective part needs to be replaced with a higher rated part. This type of repair returns the unit to full functionality and allows the unit to properly switch between the internal and external antenna as it was intended to do by design

Comments: I will aso add, as the part deteriorates, it becomes resistive and can eventually short out and shunt the incoming RF signal to ground......EVEN with the jumper procedure performed by the shop mentioned above.

Magnavox TV

Salutation TrudyK,

Great question! First think to know is that if you are getting your programing from a cable or satellite provider a digital converter box would not be needed. These services are not being required to change their signals. If you use rabbit ears or an antenna a digital converter maybe required.

Looking at the specifications of your televisions they all appear to have analog tuners which would need digital converters to receive the new digital broadcasts.

Thankfully the FCC does have a program in place to offer coupons to assist in purchasing the new converter boxes.

For more information on the digital transition and coupon programs BestBuy.com has a FAQS, wuizzes and tutorials available at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat120600050013&type=category

Having problems acquiring satellites

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching! The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me: 1) open the GPS antenna 2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on 3) enter maintenace mode 4) select diagnostics 5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data 6) restart unit the usual way My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.
