My Lacie 300794U suddenly blinks with a blue light but does not link up. Replaced power cord but still does the same thing.

disk drive p/s are very touchy. find the exact specs for the input for that drive. power adapters are within a general range and tolerance. you cannot mix any computer 5 volt adaptor. I took mine to a computer store, a small family shop and tied a toshiba 5v adaptor. and worked perfect. from the picture it appears that you are using an a/c 110v to d/c 5v adaptor. it it wirks intermittently then you may have a break at the bend in the cord, if it flucuates the adaptor interfaces may have a bad connection inside the drive box. if your handy open the lid and make sure the 5v connecter has the +5 red and gnd black haven`t come loose..the sneaky way is to go to best buy and purchase the exact same model and try the power supply, if successful you recover all the data and return the new unit. but you still don`t have a drive, or keep the new one and format the old drive
throw out the old adaptor and now you have 2 drives with one plug in. you can use the older formatted one to store partition image, and the new one for eveyday.. remember voltage in electronics kills ie. 13-14v will burn the drive, current is ok 1-3 amps no problem because this is what the drive can draw as required..THIS IS ONLYFOR D/C never use a variable voltage adapter like from radio shack, somtimes you set at 12v d/c and my multimeter reads 14-15
which will set on fire most electronics, portable radio etc.
I don`t know if you a computer or electronics background so I tried to cover my bases, hope this helps

Will not turn on. green light on power cord is blinking but the unit will not turn on (the disc do not spin). need to recover files on HDD

Is this a Laptop or Desktop?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoever when you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you was operating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cord is bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the power cord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can put the battery back in and let it charge.

Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Please help, this beeping noise want stop and I hope I haven't lost all of my pictures, pleases help

The noise you can hear is not a good one, it is a seek error which means the drive is dead, there are companies who can recover the data but it is not cheap.

Welcome to Fixya!

OK, i have read the initial question/statement, and by the sound of it, you might have a bigger problem than initially suggested.

Firstly we will need to ask you a couple of questions. This will enable you to either diagnose the problem yourself, or give me feedback on the questions.

Does the "Seeking" sound you refer to sound like a faint clicking noise?

Have you plugged the drive into a Windows operating system to see if it mounts itself?

Are you sure all the cables and adapters are in good order?

If the seeking sound is a clicking sound, you might want to have a look at the following link.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards

My book essential has worked for several months now til now.... the white light is just blinking and my computer doesntg seem to recognize it anymore what should i do?

From the user manual (click here) on page 4, the slow blinking means that the drive is in standby mode.
The user manual does not explain how to get the drive out of standby mode, but you may want to try the procedure for powering off the drive that is on page 34 that say to press the power button on the back of the unit and wait for the LEDs to turn off.
If the unit does not power-off on its own within a few minutes of pressing the power button, the next thing to do is the following:
Shut down your computer with the drive still connected and powered-up. Once the computer is completely powered-down (no lights on or noise coming from the computer, unplug the power cord of the external USB hard drive and wait a minute. After you've waited a minute with the external USB hard drive unplugged from power, plug the power cord back in to the external USB hard drive Make sure the USB cable from the drive to the computer is properly connected. Power-up your computer using the power button on the computer and let the computer boot as usual. Once the computer has booted, check whether the external USB hard drive is now available.
Happy New Year and Thanks for using FixYa

Why does my hard drive blink

The light blinks to show you that the hard drive disc is working. It should stop after a while, but if not then you need to run a virus scan through it to make sure there are no bugs in it.

Virus can cause it to keep seeking and making the light stay on.

My Computer doesn't recognize Ion 320 GB Harddrive

Well if its lighting up, then the drive is receiving power, or the enclosure atleast. Forget that case, extract the drive, and seek out something more reliable and more solid. Preferably an aluminum enclosure with no fan.

seek out Weibetech.
