When calling voicemail, keypad won't acknowledge my password.
When I call to get my voicemail, I type the password in and the phone doesn't send the tones. I have tried typing # after the numbers, I have tried restarting the phone, I have even tried hitting the green (send) button after entering the numbers. It seems as if the keypad won't register the numbers. Also doesn't work when you get an automated answering machine and you have to choose a number to go to a topic. Help?

Depending on if you use the Instant voicemail app or call into the direct line their are different reset procedures. Additionally it will depend on the specific carrier you use. I will include some common carriers so you can use which one is applicable.
Verizon Press *611 then press SEND (airtime is free). Alternatively, call (800) 922-0204 (toll free) from any phone to reach the automated customer service menu. Listen to the instructions then when prompted, press 4. Listen to the instructions then when prompted say "Reset voicemail password".
AT&T Call the AT&T automated system from your mobile device. Press "1" to confirm your wireless phone number. Press "3" to select Reset Your Voicemail Password. You will receive a temporary password via free text message.
Sprint To reset your voicemail passcode:
Sign in to My Sprint with your username and password.
Click the My preferences tab.
Under Things I can manage online, click Change voicemail passcode. The Reset Voicemail Passcode window will open.
Hi I may be wrong or not have all the facts, But, At first glance, voicemail is not an App or service that is associated with the iPhone 4 itself. How would you "edit" voicemail?? This service would be with your mobile service provider, therefore you should be able to call from any phone and check your voice mail. Here in Australia I delete Telstra voicemail by hitting 5 after the message is played back. Hope this helps solve your problem.
This is going to depend on what carrier you have, if youre going through a carrier that supports visual voicemail (where its downloaded automatically to your device, not where you have to call in) then you may need to setup your voicemail again. If youve forgotten your password you can call your carrier and hVe them reset it for you. They will either give you a temp password or just remove the password. You now have to reestablish a password and then put it in your phone. To call voicemail either press and hold the number "1" on your keypad under "phone" or simply dial your number and hit call. Once in your voicemail listen to the options, and choose administrative, or setup(these may vary by carrier) then "change your password". Once youve done that, hangup and then choose voicemail under "phone", it should prompt you for your password, just enter the one you just created and the rest should take care of itself. You can also call your carrier and get their assistance if that doesn't work, just call from a different phone so they will be on the line while you work it out. Good Luck!
Then wait a few seconds and the call will reset your voicemail password. The voicemail password will then be the last 4 digits of your phone number. Be sure to change it once you've logged back into your voicemail.
If your wife never reset the codes when she used the phone, the "unlock" 4 digit PIN code is usually 1234, or sometimes the service provider resets it to the last 4 digits of your cell phone's number before sending it to you.
The SECURITY code is a 6 digit code which is set to "000000" when the phone is first sent to you and since your wife never used it that should still be it. I'd try entering 000000 for the "invalid security code" message you are getting and see if that does it.
Some service providers may reset that security code before sending the phone to you too, so if any of those codes don't work you'll have to call your cell phone service provider to find out the codes.
This info about all the codes was in my Razr V3 manual.
Hope it helps.
If that does work for you and you can get into voicemail, then to reset the codes to your own personal ones go to ....Settings > Security > New Passwords and reset them.
If you get to the voicemail message screen and the message stored there, (it's probably a message from the service provider) you have to call the voicemail number to retrieve the message, I just press the keypad "dot" on the top right side under where it will say "call " and it dials & brings me to my voicemail. The voicemail number should be stored in the phone, but because it was never set up you may have to call the provider to do so, I can't remember if it was already in there or not when I first set my phone up.
Anyways......Good Luck & Happy New Year ; )
