My dryer heats for the first cycle but will no reignite. We took it apart last night and tested continuity on the sensors. We ran the dryer without the drum installed and it ignited and went out and reignited just fine but after reassembling the whole thing it still only ignites for the first cycle and will not reignite to reheat the dryer.
If it ignites then it's not the sensor, all you do with the meter is whatever part you're checking remove at least one of the wires, then put one lead on one side of the part and the other on the other side where the wire connects, set the meter on like 20k ohms,if the 1 stays there the part is bad if you get any other reading other than 1 the part is good,if it ignites for the first or second time check the gas coils on top of the gas valve, when the coils are starting to fail they will work fine until they heat up and then no flame, then when they cool down they could work again or you have a bad gas valve, sometimes when the gas valve is bad it will chatter and be noisy and might ignite or not,you can try tapping on the valve when the ignitor starts to glow to see if it lites but like i say if it's igniting the sensor is good there's no gas, i believe when the sensor is bad the ignitor will sit there and glow for a long time without any flame if the sensor is good the ignitor will glow for like 10 seconds and go out if there's no gas coming in from a bad gas valve or bad gas coils but it's getting no gas, hope this helps you out and if you have any other questions open the door to dryer and send the full model number so i can help you out better

Be sure the vent is totaly clear.if the t-stat(s) heat up from lack of air flow the heat will not return until the t-stat is cool enough.Running without the drum in place will also heat up the sensor(s).This is a very common problem.

coils on the gas valve, especially the single coils that whirlpool uses, break down after use. They may ohm out good when cold and the burner may light 1, 2, or 3 times, then you get ignition failure. Coils are bad. Hint when replacing coils. the front coil which has 3 terminals has a metal sleeve inside the coil. Make sure that sleeve stays with the valve. It can get stuck in the old coil and thrown away. Good luck

The problem is the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive under $15 and easy to replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting of these components. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.

Hello,
Depending on your brand and model down on the bottom of the front panel is a piece you can take off and look in and see the burner asm. If at first you see the glow of the igniter, followed by a flame then once the flame cuts off a few minutes later the igniter glows but no flame, the coils that open the gas valve wont open to allow gas flow when they are warm, and need to be replaced.
