Darvon, it looks like there are Woodruff keys on each axle shaft so yes there is a keyway. See the link below, on page 8 is the axle diagram. Good luck!

Craftsman lawn tractor will not move

There are a few things to look a. The belt, is it slipping or loose? Check and small idler pulleys from the drive belt to the engine. The large pully on the transmission is keyed to the shaft. If either the key is sheared or the shaft worn enough, the shaft will spin but not turn the pulley under load. Also note that the axles are keyed to the rear wheels. A sheared key there will cause it to not move also. You should see the axle turning freely inside the wheel if this is the case. Here is a parts diagram so you at lease have an idea of the areas to check.

How do i get rear axle out of my 2005 honda crf 230 f. i need to put new chain and sprockets on.

A diagram of the rear wheel assembly can be found at the website below. Just loosen the axle nut 1/8' then smack the nut with a rubber mallet to loosen the axle. Remove the axle and wheel and go from there. Please rate my answer, thanks.

Need a rear end diagram for 1995 chevy cargo van 2 determine parts needed.Leaking throu tire

if you are leaking gear oil through the tire you need an axle shaft seal there is also a axle bearing there unless it is a full floating axle which means the axle has a flange on the wheel end that bolts on. if you go to the chevy dealership near you go to parts and they can print you out a break down of the axle according to your vin number on the van

I lost my manual and I'm trying to locate a rear axle but I would like to see if I need the whole axle or just a part on the end of the axle. Where can I find a picture of this?

If this is an MTD, you can find manuals and drawings here:

Click on the “parts finder” to find parts diagrams.

I cannot get the rear wheel off the tractor. Question... the ''square key''... I thought mine was missing & secured another one, but WHAT DO I DO WITH THE SQUARE KEY ? Is the original still in the hub part...

Here is what my manual says. It is for a 14 hp 42" mower deck. 6 sped transaxle.
Block up axle securely.
Remove axle cap, retaining ring and washer to allow wheel removal (rear wheel contains a square key. Do not lose).
Repair the tire and reassemble.
On rear wheels only: align grooves in rear wheel hub and axle. Insert square key.
replace washers and snap retaining ring securely in axle groove.
Replace axle cap.
If you send me your email address I can send you a picture as I do not know how to post pictures on here yet.
