Head revs up fine but the actual trimmer attachment barely moves. I can't even trim the grass!

wrong fuel/oil mixture...try 25mls of oil per litre fuel.
SOURCE: no user manual
Hello:
Most 2 Cycle Engines use a 32:1 or 40:1 Fuel Mix Ratio.
The Newer 2 Cycle Engines use a 40:1 or 50:1 Fuel Ratio.
For Better Performance and to be sure you have Plenty of Oil to the Engines Internal Components, I Suggest (and I Use) a 32:1 Ratio in All my Equipment except for Post Hole Diggers.
Post Hole Diggers Use a 25:1 Fuel Ratio.
Hope this Helps.
Good Luck
Respectfully

SOURCE: how to change blades
Use a large pair of pliers to hold the turning metal ring above the T35 trimmer head. I used a medium-sized pair of Channel Lock pliers. Then, turn the trimmer head counter-clockwise and it should unscrew from the mount. There's no need to open the trimmer head for this operation. Then, follow the parts diagram in the trimmer user manual to install the blade parts in the right order.

The only way to access the bottom of the metal shaft is to break it. This is fused on at the factory. It sounds like your flexshaft has twisted in two. Remove the flex shaft from the engine end and see if it is in one whole piece or is damaged in someway. If it rotates at the top but doesn't rotate at the string head this is probably the problem. However, Homelite no longer offers just the flex shaft for purchase. You would probably have to purchase the shaft and the tube as a unit.
But if you are saying the spool and string is not turning at the bottom it could be that the cup which holds the string has worn and can not longer be turned by the shaft. Replace the cup that holds the string.
Another possibility is that the shaft have moved forward, away from the engine and just need to be jammed back in, and retightened (the handle grip and the boom clamp).
